The Universe Hates Me!

 I FUCKING HATE INSURANCE COMPANIES!!! :angryfire2:

I received a letter in todays mail, from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Georgia, my health insurance company. It seems that inspite of my timely payments my health insurance was terminated as of 1/1/2009. I have read this four page missive three times and it's still as clear as mud. :irked: I will have to call first thing in the morning on Thursday.

What concerns me is that just three weeks ago I received a confirmation letter which stated that my upcoming surgery had been pre-certified. So now I wonder if the surgery I had scheduled for this Friday, 3/6/09 will be covered or not.

Actually I think what happend is that they decided I was too expensive to cover. My insurance became effective 3/1/2008 it was due to expire on 2/28/2009. I had already sent in the form saying I wanted to renew, even though rates had increased before Christmas. Had they continued to insure me, all of my pre-existing conditions which they had not been covering would now be covered at a rate of 70%. For instance, I get quarterly blood work to monitor my hypothyroid. It costs about $450 which I have had to pay out of pocket. After March 1, 2009 They would have had to cover 70% of that or $315. I guess they decided I was to much of a liability.

:wtf2: What the fuck is health insurance for if not to cover people like myself!?!? :irked:

My sympathy for the unpleasant surprised you've absorbed, njqt. I can't imagine the frustration you must be going through.

I have increasingly been hearing more about insurance providers (home, car, health, etc) suddenly cancelling coverage and walking away from an insured who is in desperate trouble. If isn't illegal for a provider to suddenly cancel coverage before the end of defined contract term, it sure as hell should be.

According to the letter their offices open at 7 AM. I expect to be their first caller of the day.

Contact the state insurance commissioner's office.

Get an attorney if you have to.

I am so sorry, PA. They are about money. I really hope something can be resolved. The insurance system really does need to be over hauled a lot of people are suffering by this kind of treatment.

ng.....be nice to customer serv....i am an ins company....i deal with this everyday....find your pay history....review and truely if you paid on time all is well...if you did not....u may be shit out luck....put surgury on hold.....good luck....

I hate insurance companies. This is typical insurance company bullshit. You pay them faithfully for years, and then when they catch wind they may have to give some of the money back, and actually provide the service they were paid for, they find an excuse to cancel, taking all your money you paid them over the years, and giving nothing in return. Insurance companies are evil.

BCBS granted me a full reinstatement once (they said they only do that once). If you can pay everything that is due, and its only 1 or 2 months late, they may be lenient.

Since you paid everything on time (something not everyone here has noted) AND they pre-certified your surgery, I would say that they accepted your renewal. You should also immediately find out if they cashed your renewal check. If they did, they are bound on the renewal. So, check with your bank before you call them...knowledge is your best weapon.

I got it worked out. Apparently my last payment arrived one day late. :yikes: Okay, it was my fault I didn't mail the payment sooner, but who ever heard of there not being a 24 hour grace period? I did a check by phone, re-confirmed with the hospital, and all is well. I am about to consume my 2nd bottle of carbonated lemon citroma for the bowel prep. :frown1: Did I happen to mention how much I hate bowel prep? :yuck:

Also must do a pedicure before going to bed just in case there is a handsome, single, doctor with a foot fetish.
