this is going to give me fits

Or rather, Try to give me ftiness that.

OK, elucidation time; So my work's health benefits have now come up with this new thing for 2011; They wanna draw blood from me, and find out what's wrong with me and others, and almost coerce/blackmail/ultimatum us into getting fit with 180 days of the exam, or lose a tax credit on our bennies. Nice, huh?

Now, normally I wouldn't be so hesitant to do this; Hell, I already know I'm overweight(slightly), and have some BP problems, but I don't have the money to effectively incorporate a regimen to remedy them.

:rant:how dare they issue an ultimatum like that, taking away a tax credit that could help me breathe easier, finance wise!:irked:

You ask me now again why I still loath Corporate retail America? The last 2 paragraphs should more than explain. :soapbox:

I can smell something bad here, and I live some distance from the source!

Blood can only be taken with your consent. Is your employer also threatening to erode your benefit if you refuse to give a sample for testing? If so ... wow! No wonder you loathe corporate retail.

It is good to give employees some additional incentive to get fit. It seems insane to remove an existing incentive from employees who elect not to participate.

And, anyway, how are they defining "fit"?

Nah, they only wanna take away the tax credit I'd get if I participated in this retarded jester of bad will. I think the insurance company just wants to cover it's ass by knowing what's wrong with me and getting me to fix it.

My employer does that as well. You have 2 years to correct the problem or seek help. If you refuse to submitt to the health test you get higher insurance premiums. We have to have BMI, glucose, BP, cholesterol and something else.

Oh and we are also required to have a flu shot to keep our job unless you have a religious reason and then you have to go to a counseling session about why you should still have it.

Incredible. Some say: "When America sneezes, the world catches cold" but I hadn't realised how seriously some employers might take this responsibility!

Similar program connected with my employer's insurance program. Credit given against employee's portion of premium if participate in program, including blood sample. Nonparticipants pay the full share for the employee.

with us, the flu shot is voluntary, and you don't need to explain why you don't want to get it.

Yeah, it was voluntary for us last year, no more:confused: Not that I mind getting it. We had to have two last year, atleast this year it includes the swine flu. When they had the small pox scare/ terrorist thing going on they were going to require it for us as well. Which that one was alittle more scary to me, but lucky they never had to mandate it.

Yeah, I gotta admit, this ultimatum/blackmail of my tax credit is downright unfair, and monday, regional hr is gonna need all her headache pills when I tell her how it isn't fair to me or anybody.

It's not but that's coming down from big insurance companies being pressured by the new government policies. Atleast that's my opinion. There used to be a lifetime cap on my insurance policy, but there isn't anymore. Which makes me happy, because if I were ever really sick they could have stopped paying. The testing is the way to make sure people are not untreated for common conditions like hypertension and diabetes. If your BMI is to high people can work on that to help prevent some weight related issues. We are also being given healthy eating lessions.

Well, we all knew Obama's 2011 health care bill was gonna be a doozy; this little stunt just proves and caps it but good.
