Thyroid Articles & Info

My Hashimoto's Thyroiditis has been acting up. This always sends me on a mad internet search for alternative/holistic treatments which will work because traditional western medicine has failed to work thus far. :angryfire2:

Anywho, I found some interesting sites and articles which may be of interest to those of you who also have thyroid issues.

Boy I'm glad I saw this. I think I have a thyroid problem too, NJ. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow for testing. I'm suspicious that I have hyperthyroidism, but I'm not completely sure. I've been having some heart palpitations, irregular sleeping patterns, and I've had this light pulsing pain in my groin, I'm guessing in the gland. Again, I'm not completely sure, but the research I did pointed me in the thyroid direction. Also as of a few days ago, I've had this sore in my neck, right where the thyroid is. It hurts slightly when I inhale.

I honestly don't know if I should be scared or not. I am worried, but I read that it's treatable. I have a friend who has hypoactive thyroid, and she has to take the pill every day.

NJQT there are thyroid support groups on yahoo. Check them out. You too Mr. I would be careful as to treatment by a Doctor. I am on Synthroid and for some reason realized that the reason the doctor told me I would have to stay on synthroid the rest of my life is because synthroid will destroy my thyroid completely. Went to what I refer to as a naturist the other day and asked if my thyroid was shot yet and if not could I treat it with natural medicines and eventually get off the synthroid ? She said no it wasn't completely destroyed and yes I could try natural medicines. Now before I get flamed for this: My doctor put me on throid medicine when after I had some blood tests he decided I was hypo not hyper. Didn't have symptoms but went along with the doctor. Now after taking the pills for quite a while now, I have symtoms such as: being tired, brain fog, palpitations and weight gain. I believe these are side effects of the medicine, which if you check out some of these thyroid sites you will find this has happened to many people. Many of the people on these sites now go to a endocronologist (sorry I think that is how it is spelled). Seems some doctors only know to prescribe the thyroid medicine but doesn't know what to do when you have these side effects. If this doesn't work, I am planning on seeing a endoc.... myself. Good luck to you both. I hope things gets better.

Thanks for the info, Josh. I'll see what the tests say and go from there. If I am correct that I have this, then I will want some other opinions. The doctor I see is a small town guy anyways. I definitely want other outside opinions.
