Update On My Father

Daddy is still in the hospital. :frown1: They have no clue why he lost consciousness twice Saturday night. They have ruled out seizure and possibly stroke. They have done a veritable plethora of tests and taken enough blood to feed a vampire for a week. His poor arms are bruised as his veins are hard to find. :frown1:

Dad has been diabetic for at least 15 years but has been able to control it with diet, walking, and pills. Sunday they started him on insulin and he was pissed, but both mom and I could tell he was doing better.

On Monday they used a scope to go down his esophagus and view his heart. Apparently 2 valves had minor leaks but no clots. They thought there were clots on or in his lungs but on further inspection weren't quite sure. It could be an infection. :yikes: Yet they want to put him on Coumadin. Here's the thing, when he was in the hospital in February 2008 they took him off Coumadin and put in a stent. The stent was supposed to prevent blood clots from traveling to his heart, brain, lungs, etc. They checked the stent today and it is still in place. Apparently his body somehow bypassed the stent to get a clot to his lungs. :wtf1:

To add to the drama, he has a UTI and after the second CT scan they discovered a clot at the back of his head which they said was from a fall.

At this point I just about flipped out because he fell and hit his head in this same hospital 10 months ago! In February they said it was just a hematoma between the scalp and the skull and that he was okay. However from that day forward he has had to walk with either a cane or a walker. He had to stop driving. Do you know what that does to a man to be told he can no longer drive? This was the first summer in over 30 years that he couldn't swim in our pool. His health, mobility, and quality of life have gone steadily down hill since the fall in that damned hospital! :irked:

There is apparently a chance that his mobility issues are related to a blood clot on his brain which he sustained from that fall in February and they just missed it.

After we left the hospital tonight we went to Publix. We purchased 2 lbs. of lobster claws, stuff for crudite, and ordered a small deli platter for Wednesday night. The good thing about small hospitals in rural areas is that they are fairly liberal about visiting hours. Mom and I will go early tomorrow in hopes of catching his doctors on their rounds. Then we will come home and rest before going back around 8 PM or so and stay till midnight with our New Year's Eve Party goodies.

2008 has been less than great, I can't wait to kiss it's behind.
I just know 2009 will be fine!
