Vacation spot

DC?

Chicago?

Biloxi?

Have you been to any of these spots for vacation? If so, what's to do there?

Well it comes down to three simple rules... 1) What are they known for? 2) What are you interested in? 3) Bang for the buck.

Chicago: Hangout for actors, movers n shakers, college life, family activities, social action, diversity, sports, and night life. If first time experience, taking a taxi is mandatory in downtown, as Chicago drivers have no sympathy for they own the road. In fact they will go out of their way to show you.

DC: Political History, Museums & Library, Politicians, Some night life. Diversity outside of DC, since states converge, you will have to plan on what suits your needs to what direction you want to go. Taxi is optional, as the layout is easy to identify buildings and what not. Depending on time of year Taxi is mandatory. Though nightly travel outside in surrounding areas a taxi should be used.

Biloxi: Not known as a popular tourist hot spot. We are talking the south here, so be warned they do things differently. Your not going to find much diversity. History my be pointed depending on where you go. It may be an adventure, as Alabama was for me. No I have not set foot there, but know southern hospitality is a pleasant change up when being away.

I've been to DC and Chicago quite often on business and have always been able to spend a few days on either end enjoying what the city has to offer. (Both have a great deal in terms of sites, museums, restaurants and shopping). The best advice I could give you is look up something like visitingchicago.com or toruistsinDC.com (I made those both up) and it will give you and idea of what you will find, the temperature average by month and any special events going on.

We had a wonderful time in DC of course there is lots to do there.(especially if you love history).. Biloxi has the Gulf beach if you love sun and fun ...

I've never been to Chicago (It doesn't count if you lived there when you were 5) ...

you'd have fun anywhere I'm sure

Hi sprinkles. I have never been to any of these locations for vacation, though I have been to DC on business. All, I know is the most important thing for you to do is come to a decision and take your vacation.

Enjoy, and remember to send us a postcard, unless you are too busy having fun!

Thanks all. The other thing I forgot to mention was the timing. Since I work and go to school full time, my vacation would be right before the holiday thru the end of January or on spring break. DC and Chicago are cold in Dec/Jan. Hmmm....decisions are hard. I'm not into the night life but I do want to go somewhere that has a lot of history. I'd love to go to the Smithsonian to tour the National Museum of the American Indian. Chicago, full of history and I have a long lost brother that lives there (long story). I say Biloxi because it's a place that someone else suggested to me.

One thing to remember about a trip to DC in the springtime is that is when all of the schools around the nation also visit the nation's capitol. We went in May and there were kids everywhere... the lines and the museaum were crazy~

We are going to go back next year in the Fall... This time of year. Not sure how you feel about being inundated with buses on top of buses loaded with kids. But it was kind of a downer for us... I'm not really into big crowds .. of any kind.

I have been to Chicago a number of times the museums are great and amazing food. Seeing your brother would be a good bonus too. Never been to DC so I really have nothing to add other than seeing our capital would be neat. As for Biloxi, it's a southern sleepy area with small towns spot the coast line. New Orleans is an hour and a half away.

OWO mentioned NOLA... If I were you, I'd check into that if you are thinking about the South, lots of fun things to do there, especially in the French Quater and Garden District... (much much more there than just "bourbon street")
