While many people follow on the Path of Eros for its physically-oriented practices like cock training and conscious bodybuilding, one of the most essential aspects of the Path how it facilitates connection with something beyond our ordinary self, in what could most broadly be called visionary, mystical, or transcendental experiences.
Words are especially challenging when talking about these kinds of experiences, so please don’t let any preconceptions turn you off from reading more. When people hear terms like ‘visionary’ or ‘mystical’, some may think the topic is too ‘woo-woo’ to take seriously, or is just the stuff of overactive imaginations. So, please give me the benefit of the doubt and keep reading.
What are visionary experiences?
There are many different kinds of visionary, mystical, and transcendental experiences. In some cases, we might see lights or patterns of color with our inner sight (as in the ‘tunnel of light’, leading to a blazing light filling our entire field of vision). In some cases, we might have powerful feelings of Oneness, vastness, love, joy, or knowing fully who we are. In some cases, we might sense another level of being, such as a beautiful garden-like area, a city of light, or lower levels of existence. In some cases, in our mind’s eye we might interact with other beings, such as a guiding person, animal or plant figures, a being made of light, a deity-like being, or countless other kinds of experiences.
Across all these kinds of experiences, the common thing is connecting with something beyond our ordinary self. The point isn’t to escape from our ordinary reality, to ‘trip out’, or collect unusual experiences like trophies. Instead, visionary experiences are deeply worth having, for many different reasons:
There are various kinds of times when we are more likely to spontaneously have visionary experiences, such as:
Automatic writing is the process by which many spiritual books are written, including The Zohar, The Law of One, some parts of The Bible, and many parts of The Book of Eros. In these kinds of experiences, words flow through us from some seemingly-external source, fully composed. Automatic writing is a much larger topic, let me know if you would like more details.
How to help visionary experiences happen
Each and every single moment, each and every single thing we do is a chance to connect with something deeper than our ordinary way of being. For example, while working out, while giving or receiving a massage, while meditating, while going for a walk, or any other activity, we can approach it from our ordinary perspective, or we can take a deeper approach.
Most traditions have some way of helping these experiences happen. For example, some Sufis might whirl around in circles; Kabbalists might repeat a Divine name, Hindus might repeat a mantra, Buddhists might visualize themselves as a form of the Divine; Christians might do centering prayer; Shamanic practitioners might use a drum, etc.
A common aspect of all these practices is a radical calming of the mind, by concentrating on some kind of repetitive practice. The key isn’t to concentrate with force, but a relaxed kind of focus, and opening fully. However, many people aren’t drawn to these kinds of practices, don’t understand why they’re valuable, and don’t know how to find a qualified teacher even if they are interested.
Besides, two key aspects are missing from how these techniques are usually taught and practiced, which can make all the difference.
One piece that’s usually missing can be thought of as ‘raising our energy’. Our usual level of energy is enough to support most things we do in our daily lives, but isn’t enough to support higher levels of consciousness. Breathing deeply can help, as the increased oxygen flow results in higher levels of energy, but most people don’t keep up the intensity as much as is needed. It’s much easier to reach the necessary energy levels by connecting deeply with the libido, as well as breathing deeply. This combination helps to raise a powerful source of energy that’s usually dormant at the base of our spine, sometimes called kundalini energy. In other words, let your energy build by getting turned on as fuck, but don’t expend that energy by cumming — if you want to focus on personal growth and/or mystical experience, channel it into your practice. (That doesn’t mean you never cum, it just means to choose wisely how often to cum.)
The other piece that’s usually missing is opening fully. Opening can be done on a detailed level, working with each energy center from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, for people who have some familiarity with our energy centers and how to work with them. Opening can also be done on a more general level, such as by making sure your whole body is as relaxed as possible, spine straight but relaxed, let go of any tension, and focus on being in an expansive state, visualizing yourself being completely made of love, joy, and radiance.
Keys for visionary experience
The keys to make visionary experiences more likely to happen can be remembered with the acronym CRFF (pronounced ‘Cruff’):
To do edging for visionary purposes, do it sitting up if possible. Edge for long enough so that you are fully aroused and are as near the edge as possible, without going over. Crucially, don’t just keep edging for hours, stop edging once you are fully turned on. If you need to, set a timer for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or however long it is likely to take. Or, make a playlist of music that gets you in the mood, with the playlist only as long as you think it’s likely to take. If you need more time, that’s fine, but don’t keep going forever.
Once you are fully aroused, go through your checklist.
Make sure your mind is calm, as your mind may be racing like a wheel, or like a boat buffeted this way and that by powerful storms. Let the wheel keep spinning, let the boat keep sailing, but without you on it. You are not your thoughts, you are not your mind, you are not your body. If any thoughts or sensations come up, don’t follow them.
Make sure your energy is still fully raised, set your intention, and focus on it. For example, you might set your intention that you will know yourself, heal some part of yourself, fully own your desire, directly meet your soul, directly meet your animal self, see Heaven, or any other intention that feels right. Focus on that intention with relaxed focus, not the intense, white-knuckled, grasping focus.
Then, open fully, relaxing every part of your body, especially from the base of your spine to the crown of your head. Keep your back straight but relaxed, tuck your chin slightly, and feel a thread pulling you upwards from the crown of your head. It’s recommended that trainees only journey in an upwards direction, above the crown, rather than journeying to the lower realms, as that takes more specialized training.
If you ever feel you’re getting lost or off-track, gently return to your focus, and to the center of your being: as long as you are focused on a point somewhere along the vertical axis running through the center of your being, you will remain connected with your Self.
Let me know if you have any questions, and please share your experiences if you feel comfortable. Remember, it isn't about bragging rights, it's about helping us all learn from each other. I know from personal experience how transformative this approach can be, as it's the practice that led to my main awakening experiences, and many of my other visionary experiences.
Blessings for your journey.

The point isn’t to escape from our ordinary reality, to ‘trip out’, or collect unusual experiences like trophies. Instead, visionary experiences are deeply worth having, for many different reasons:
- Can give us guidance about how to solve the most difficult problems we face
- Can help us make as much progress as is possible in our personal and spiritual journey
- Can help us understand who we really are
- Can help us understand the nature of existence
- Can help us practice navigating the non-physical world, which many believe helps us prepare for the time after physical death
- There are good reasons to take this seriously, even if you’re an intellectual, skeptically-minded person like me
There are various kinds of times when we are more likely to spontaneously have visionary experiences, such as:
- In deep meditation
- In dreams
- Right before going to sleep
- Awakening experiences
- Out-of-body experiences
- Near-death experiences
- Automatic writing
- The time right before orgasm
- The time between one thought ending and another beginning
- In general, all ‘in-between’ states, as in the Tibetan concept of the bardo
