Want to get my lip pierced...

but I'm kinda nervous to do so. My body doesn't seem to get along well with piercings. I had my eyebrow pierced for over 6 months and it never healed. It never really got infected, it just never healed. Didn't appear to be any migration or rejection... I just still had all the crusty stuff going on with it like you do when you first get it pierced. So I took that out. I've had my ears pierced for 4 years or so now, and I've had problems with them since the get go. I put a pair of earrings in about three weeks ago and wore them everday for a week or two... when I took them out, they had this green crap all over them... like, crayola crayon green. Yuck. But again, they don't seem infected. They don't hurt. They aren't red. They aren't filled with puss or anything. I don't know what is going on with this. lol. My ears are obviously healed, after 4 years... I can go months without wearing earrings and they won't close up... so what's with the green shit? And the crusty eyebrow ring? :frown1: I just wanted to be pierced, damnit!

The ears thing is pretty normal-- you might just have a slight metal allergy. I'd mention that to your piercer.

I had a labret piercing and it healed very quickly. It's an easier healing piercing than an eyebrow. Even with the eyebrow it may have been allergies. Also migration can be just slight enough to not notice. Or you could have been sleeping on it. Who knows.

I'd try the lip, I think you'll find that it'll be okay. Also, ask your piercer about all of this and if he/she can't answer well, maybe see someone else. A second (and third, fourth) opinion never hurts.

Green...yeech...are you using good jewelry or cheap shit. Get some good surgical steel jewelry. Go for the labret. BTW, I have had both nips done for years, and sometimes still get some crusties/lymph. Just life I guess. I have not had any problems with any of my other piercings.

Meg, I'm trying really hard not to be a judgemental prude; but with all you have going on in your life right now; and all you desire to obtain professionally is a lip piercing a smart move? I think NOT!

Seriously, you want to get a lip piercing when you know your body has a tendency to reject them? :wtf2: Don't you work at Cold Stone Creamery? Cause you know everybody wants a woman with a crusty, lip piercing scooping their ice cream. . . NOT! :duh:

Piercings are inexpensive; but with money so tight surely there is something else you can do with those funds. I'm just saying.

You wore the same set of earrings for Three weeks? Are you mad?! You should have been using either rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide or something to clean those earrings. I have a rule about my ear piercings and my tongue piercing.

For Ears:
1:Do not wear same jewelery for more than 3 days in a row.
2:Clean jewelery often in rubbing alcohol.
3: Don't wear heavy earrings for more than a few hours a day. (I have some really heavy earrings I got from Hot Topic. They irritate my ears because of the weight, so I try not to wear them for more than 5 hours in a day, despite the fact that they're my favs.)

For Tongue and any piercing where the piercing is moist in any area:
1: Clean mouth regularly with at least Mouthwash or hard liquor. (not beer or anything with yeast. That's just begging for an infection)
2: Rotate piercing regularly. For my tongue, I change the barbell like every 3 weeks and my barbells and balls are disinfected with mouthwash.
3: If you feel any discomfort (sometimes if I forget to change my barbell or rinse my mouth, my tongue will get kinda sore, but so far I've avoided any hospital visits by immediately using mouthwash)

The same rules apply to all piercings really.
Keep the area clean as possible.

Oh and to the person who said not to get a piercing, here's my view on the how situation. Is it better for a person to spend 30-40 bucks or less to get one piercing and some extra jewelery for it, or should they spend that money to get their nails done and have that only last a couple weeks depending on how fast their nails grow. (Mine grow fast, I also have a bad habit of picking at my nails and my work can damage any nail art easily)

To be honest, when I visit my friends and family in California this summer, I'll be coming home with at least 2-3 more piercings.

I don't know what's going on in your life TattooedMamaMeg, but I hope you get through whatever it is. If a lip piercing is something that will help you feel better, get it and take care of it.

njqt466 - I have at LEAST three more years of school left before I can get a job in the field I desire... I don't plan on having any "professional" jobs until then. So I figured that if I want to get my lip pierced, I can do that before I have to worry about a job. Who knows when I'll get an opportunity to do it again. When I retire? Also, with the job I'm looking for, tattoos and piercings aren't necessarily taboo.

Money is NOT tight at the moment, hence my decision to do this. I have plenty of money in the bank and I'm still working. If it doesn't heal like my other piercings, I can always remove it and at least say I tried. I never said that I was definitely going to get a piercing, just that I really wanted one, but was nervous to get one due to my prior experience with piercings.

"Doubt means Don't" is way oversimplified and overused. Doubt can mean a lot of things: you've stumbled on the potential for growth, a new experience or situation where you're unsure as to what to do, or deciding what is best between "this" or "that", etc . It doesn't always mean you're considering doing something that's bad for you or someone else.

Meg, how you spend your money is your business. If tattooing and piercing is your one indulgence, then don't let anyone tell you what to do. You're smart and I trust you'll be wise with what you've been given.

So when are you getting the fairy filled with colour? :biggrin1:
