What's Next

Hello Everybody -

On Tuesday night i was sick of being in my friend's apartment and decided to venture out to a fantastic wine bar around the corner of his house for a glass of wine. I seated myself at the black granite bar and ordered a glass of Syrah and had a tapas to go with.

All of a sudden there was this woman's hand on my shoulder and she said to me "Who ARE you?!" in this breathy voice.

I turned around to look at her to discover she was this stunning, 6 foot tall, blonde supermodel looking woman in her 40s. She was beautiful.

I must have had a quizzical look on my face and she went on to say that she was not hitting on me since she was there with her husband and pointed a distinguished silver haired GQ looking guy on a nearby sofa.
She explained that they were not used to seeing in St. Louis someone of my presence, bearing and posture and they were surprised by my sophistication. WHAT?!

So i sated their curiosity and gave them an entertaining 2 minute rundown of my life and how it is that i was in st. louis and at this wine bar.

She had been an opera singer in Paris for 12 years and her husband was a philosopher. I asked the husband what kind of career he parlayed a philosophy degree into. And just to be ridiculous I piped up and said "Let me guess - you are now a Baptist Minister!" and laughed and laughed.

Their jaws were on the floor and he informed that he was in fact now a Baptist minister. LOL!

They were great fun to chat with and we chattered away for about an hour or so. It was just one of those random, fun social outings and very enjoyable to talk with coplete strangers about philosophy, opera, religion, travel, etc. And all i did was just walk in there.

Now to the pressing issue at hand - I met with the plastic surgeon on Wednesday to learn that the surgery will take 5 hours, my face will be reassembled with titanium plates and that it will be $5,000. Oh - and that i do not HAVE to have the surgery if i don't want. If I don't have it, just one side of my face will be flat. And that a possible side effect of having the surgery is blindness - working around all of the optical nerves, etc.

He went on to say that Dallas has a far larger plastic surgery community and he suggested having the surgery done there since they do so many more of them. So i will be doing that as soon as i can get down there. Hopefully this weekend or early next week.

In other news, staying with this college friend of mine is really getting on my nerves. All he does is go to work, leaves work at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and goes to the same dive bar every day and drinks until 10 or 11 at night, comes home and goes to bed. That's it. 6 days a week, week after week. He is truly a miserable person.

On the few times i have gone out drinking with him, he gets pissed off that people so easily talk with me and i with them. Even more pissed off that after a short while in a bar that i can be making out with some hot 22 year old girl. My friend is socially stunted to say the least. And it just gets really old having him be jealous nad pissed off at me when i am having a great time and he sits there like a lump on a log. When i told him about the wine bar thing he just shook his head and said "i don't what it is you have..." and walked away.
Since i have been detained here i have ventured out and around town and have found the library, a farmers market, the community recylcling center, the wine bar, a to die for art gallery and when i mention all of these things to him he just sort of grunts and says 'so what'. he is completely unaware of all of these things. of course he would be. work and drink every day. I thank Christ that is not the life i have chosen for myself. I will be happy to be on my and leave him to his unhappy and limited existence. That concludes the "my friend is a pain in the ass" portion of this blog. lol.

Thanks again for the support, encouragement and good wishes. I will keep you all posted.

Chris....this shows me that when u are handed lemons...you make lemonade....instead of turning sour...and blaming the world....good for you and good for us who know you....I am not surprised by your life events....expect more good news from you soon...good luck buddy....Jeff

Alot of us in MO are like "yeah.......and?" when people that are not from around here say something about something close. It is nothing new to us. You should come see me! I'm only a 3 hour drive away.........only. LOL

I knew a little fall couldn't keep you down for long. It's good to see that you can still enjoy yourself. Hope everything works out.

I'll make only one comment, about this surgery thing: DO NOT let someone who doesn't do this kind of surgery FREQUENTLY do this work. Go to whatever major city you can, go to a university research hospital where they train surgeons in this specialty, let them look at you, let them do the work.

Best of luck.
