So, I’ve noticed in the past year or so, a big uptick in peoples’ use of the term Daddy.

Used to be a euphemism for an established older guy (40+?) with a certain attractive confidence, or maybe a term for the older in an inter-generational pairing.

Lately though it seems that dudes seem to use it for just about anyone who’s a top, or even any old partner regardless of age. Like, how is someone in their 20’s considered a daddy? It seems like a strange slip in the vernacular.

Thoughts?

Now aday, they’re calling any guy with a hairy chest, having a 5 o’clock shadow or beard/moustache a daddy, doesn’t matter if the guy is still in his 20s.

Yeah I just turned 32, my paunch getting a bit bigger, my knuckles hairier, waiting for my "Daddy" card in the mail lol.
I feel you. I'm 33, and it seems like a hormone finally kicked in.

The hair on my arms and thighs has almost always been transparent, and suddenly it's growing in. Same with chest hair, and my snail trail is expanding.

Farewell twink years. Thy served me well.

99% of the blokes I date are 15-20 years older, but I don't think I could call them daddy. Lol

That second puberty that comes in your early 30s is no urban myth! However I do like that I'm becoming more masculine; I think second puberty has made me more attractive honestly.

You make a great point. I have always felt that men REALLY get interesting about age 35. I felt this way when I was 18 and still do.
Mind you, I'm old enough to be a grandfather to the twins, but don't call me "Daddy"!

There used to be a local guy on Grindr who was 25 years old and always referred to himself as Daddy. I never met him and I never did see a face picture, but the few pictures he did share didn't make him "daddy material" to me.

For me, part of being a daddy is the attitude, experience, and maturity. Maybe he did qualify in those departments.

At first, it really bothered me as I got older, and the guys started referring to me as Daddy. When I was younger, I used to be into older men. I never called them daddy, but I did enjoy the maturity, experience and attitude they brought. I think I learned a lot from them. But now I am older, living in a college town and often play around with guys who are much younger than me. I don't see them as sons, so I don't expect them to call me daddy. But a couple of the guys who referred to me as daddy, I went with it and really turned on the father/son attitude. I am hoping they learned from me as I did when I was younger and playing with the older guys.

I definitely learned a lot from being with older guys, especially when it comes to conversations about what it was like to be gay in past eras, which is really valuable history that most young gay men won't be able to learn from anywhere but older gay men. It's also always reassuring to be with older men who still like having a good time because it makes you fear aging less; it's good to be reminded there's plenty fun to be had yet.

Never called any of them daddy though.

I feel like I missed out on some of the elder-gay mentoring. I've had some standout people with stories. One 94 year old friend who passed about 3 years ago had some great stories and was wonderful company.

I was a serial monogamist from my 20's to mid 30's and dated people mostly in my own age pool, so I missed out on a bit of the intimate dynamic there. I might have also been a bit too ...precocious back then: Someone once told me "You're not older-guy material". I think that they probably meant that I wasn't malleable enough to qualify for that dynamic at the time.

I've lived in a retirement town for eight years now, the median age is 57, one of those aging hippie towns on the west coast. There isn't a lot of people my age, so I was bound to meet a lot of older gay men. I'm sort of anachronistic too, I don't fit in with my generation much and I get along well with older people, but lately I've been wanting to take a break from older men. Because while there's benefit to being with older men, I have been in the situation where I felt like they were using me to hide from their own age. Even when you say age isn't a factor, there's still situations where it winds up being a factor.

For the past few years I've been called Daddy, Granddaddy by a good many people. I've got a bit of a gut, hairy and am 63, so, physically, I guess I fit the title. I enjoy it, especially when it's someone younger, (from their 30s and younger). If they happen to be muscular and hung, that's even more of a turn on.

Very good posting... It seems that term has many different meanings to different people..Now the way it has been explained to me by women and men, the term daddy is often used during or after having sex... A man is referred as a daddy for giving their partner that good fuck they haven’t had in a while (regardless of age)..Like I have been told numerous times “every man isn’t a daddy... That title is earned”.

I see it more as having panache and swagger (not the cocky young guy type - the more self actualized type), not necessarily as sexual prowess (where IMO it gets conflated with tops).

Like I said different meaning to different people... I am just stating how it was explained to me and why I am called that...

Jusr like the term swagger means something different - depending who you ask
