Oh, you won't escape quite that easily. Come to daddy - it's time for your medicine. :087:

Oh, Matthew, Lord and High Holy Hair-Splitter, would we have two listings in this category for "Whoomp There It Is" and "Whoot There It Is" since two different "groups" released those?
Ding Ding Ding! Techincally, you are correct (the best way to be correct) -- Neither Tag Team nor 95 South ever had another hit single! *applause from studio audience*

but wasn't "For What It's Worth" a pretty big hit?

It was indeed, DC - Buffalo Springfield's only hit single reached the top 10 in 1967.

*runs back off to the Candyland of top 40 trivia*

"Spirit In The Sky" which has been covered endlessly by one-hit wonders Norman Greenbaum, Marilyn and Gareth Gates springs to mind ....
Just to give credit where credit is due - Gareth Gates is hardly a one-hit wonder. In fact, he's had three UK #1's, with the aforementioned "Spirt in the Sky" as well as "Unchained Melody" and "Anyone Of Us" and 3 additional Top 5 hits.

As for me, one of my fave one hit wonders was by an act put together specifically to record and release one song only, so I doubt we'll ever see a future release from them at all. It's "If You Could Read My Mind" from the film 54 by Stars on 54 (Ultra Nate, Amber and Jocelyn Enriquez). Ones that also pop to mind are a little nugget from the disco era - "Doctor's Orders" by Carol Douglas - and from the 80's, "When I'm With You" by Sheriff and "The Promise" by When In Rome.

This has been mentioned, and I had to listen to it again (After hearing it at the Green Lantern over the weekend). It bears repeating as one of my favorite guilty pleasure songs EVER:

"Thong Song" by Sisqo

Ooh dat dress so scandalous
And ya know another nigga couldn't handle it
See ya shakin that thang like who's da ish
With a look in ya eye so devilish

Uh
Ya like to dance at all the hip hop spots
And ya cruise to the crews like connect da dots
Not just urban she likes the pop
Cuz she was livin la vida loca

[BRIDGE]
She had dumps like a truck truck truck
Thighs like what what what
Baby move your butt butt butt
Uh
I think to sing it again
She had dumps like a truck truck truck
Thighs like what what what
All night long
Let me see that thong

[CHORUS]
I like it when the beat goes da na da na
Baby make your booty go da na da na
Girl I know you wanna show da na da na
That thong th thong thong thong
I like it when the beat goes da na da na
Baby make your booty go da na da na
Girl I know you wanna show da na da na
That thong th thong thong thong

LET ME SEE THAT THOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!!

Shit, Lex, I'm glad I don't even know what that one is.

I usually don't like the music that makes the hits, makes the top 40's and top 10's. Even artists I usually like, their stuff that gets airplay is my least favorite of their work. Hmm, I usually have the opposite opinion of most of the movie critics, too. Maybe I'm seeing a trend here.

Haha, one exception there, though. I never like anything else I ever heard by him, but for some reason I had a thing for BJ Thomas' "Hooked on a Feelin". I know, I'm sick.

Of course, it might be interesting to mention some of the worst one-hit wonders. My vote in that category is for "Shannon" by Henry Gross. It's hard to beat a song about a drowning pet dog sung in a falsetto.

I'm not sure if this really qualified as a one hit wonder, but:

Achy Breaky Heart
-Billy Ray Cyrus

"Monster Mash" - Bobby Pickett.

Did we do "Tainted Love" yet? - Soft Cell.

How about "96 Tears" - Question Mark and the Mysterions.

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" - The Tokens.

"Old Rivers" - Walter Brennan (haha, noone was gonna get that one)

"Sukiyaki" - Whatshisname

"In A Gadda Da Vida" - Iron Butterfly

"Fire" - Arthur "Crazy World of" Brown

"Flute Thing" - Blues Project

"I Will Survive" - Gloria Gaynor. Ironic because you can't do an evening of karaoke without one round of this one. She is probably waiting tables somewhere now.

"Safety Dance" - Men Without Hats.

Thats all I got. My head hurts trying to remember this stuff.

No wait! "Take Five" - Dave Bruebeck (If you don't count his TV theme for the show Mr. Lucky).

Unless its about a lost pony and the girl who goes off looking for it and never returns. "Wildfire" - Micheal Murphey. God I hated that song.

Ok, I'm out.

I never wanted to punch a horse in the eye as badly as I did that one, ugh.

Another favorite would be "Pure Energy (What's on Your Mind)" by Information Society.

Least favorite would have to be "La Vida Loca" by someone who shall remain nameless, and I don't want to hear any crap about his other "hits".

Yeah, kind of like "Your Woman" by White Town. I was looking forward to hearing more out of them too.

Ok, *Tongue sticking out to the side in concentration* scratch that one. In its place I nominate "Kung Fu Fighting" - Carl somebody or other.

Argghh. Me too. It seemed like Michael Martin Murphy wailed on forever during that song. And to think it was so popular in the late 1970s.

Humor columnist Dave Barry once did a hilarious send up of the lyrics to that song.

How I love a man who knows his Top 40. Marry me?
