13 eunuchs killed in fire in India - Yahoo! News

A eunuch ([IMG] /ˈjuːnək/; Greek: Ευνούχος) is a person born male most commonly castrated, typically early enough in his life for this change to have major hormonal consequences. (Less commonly, in translations of ancient texts, "eunuch" may refer to a man who is not castrated but who is impotent or celibate.)
Castration was typically carried out on the soon-to-be eunuch without his consent in order that he might perform a specific social function; this was common in many societies. The earliest records for intentional castration to produce eunuchs are from the Sumerian city of Lagash in the 21st century BC.[1][2] Over the millennia since, they have performed a wide variety of functions in many different cultures: courtiers or equivalent domestics, treble singers, religious specialists, government officials, military commanders, and guardians of women or harem servants.

Most eunuchs have penises, just not testes.

    Shame about the fire, though.

I am reporting this as an inappropriate thread because it deals with sexual mutilation performed on young boys.

The hijras in India are not castrated as young boys. They are a self-identified group of "non-males" who constitute a social "third sex" among Indian culture. Those that have been castrated did it of their own choosing, and almost always as adults. But not all hijras are castrated.

There's really no violation as described in the previous post.

Hmm, I have always assumed eunuchs are devoid of the penis so that they cannot have sexual pleasure in the usual manner.

The eunuchs in olden day China had the whole lock, stock and barrel removed.

Anyone know how much was removed by the Turks? They had eunuchs there. As for the Indian ones, I understand both the penis and the testicles are removed.

Indeed, this is what I understand from watching a BBC programme quite a few years back.
