Yeah, I saw the movie last night. It was good, but not great. This flick is pretty much all Cusack, and he delivers a solid performance. This man is underrated as an actor. I didn't jump once and I wasn't scared at all, but the movie does a very good job of building up and creating a lot of tension, and it never really lets up for most of the movie. It was more of a suspense than an actual horror movie, but good nonetheless. Just don't go in expecting to see a whole lot of Sam Jackson - he's in for about 20 minutes total in 1408.

I give it a B out of seven stars. :)

Just saw the movie.
I think it's great.Actually quite chilling at points, I found.
Cusack is great.
Burnsie is right ... we don't see much of Sam Jackson, but he's great in what we do see.
I'd give it 4 stars out of 5.

I totally wanted to see 1408 two days ago, but was instead stuck watching Evan Almighty followed by Hostel 2. Quite a disturbing combination but not worth the free passes IMHO.

OMG - IWANTTOSEETHISMOVIESOBAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only is John Cusack hot, but I love having the living daylights scared out of me....

I absolutely adore John Cusack, and I think I've enjoyed every movie I've seen him in. He is definitely underrated, as you have all stated. And yes, Rubi... I'm over the moon about him.

Ditto!!!

Sometimes you like a movie greatly and then, next day or a cpl days later, you find that it just doesn't hang in your head the way you supposed it would.
I find that a bit with 1408.
I loved it last night, but today I find it a bit manipulative. ('Course, that might be my error in reading a few online reviews after seeing it ... though as many were positive as negative.)
But still a good movie.

I thought it was great, but mainly because no one makes real Hitchockian thrillers anymore. If the genre were more populated there would be better flicks. The only real flaw I can come up with is that with a cast of one person, it's pretty obvious that he's not going to die, or if he does it won't be 'till just before the end credits. It took a lot of the tension out of some of the scenes- minor spoiler ahead- especially the one on the ledge outside the room.

Sam Jackson was motherfucking awesome as usual. I found myself hoping they'd pull a Psycho and kill John Cusack's character, then shift the focus to Sam, but by withholding him from us it made the scenes he was in so much more effective. Next paragraph is a spoiler, I'll put it in white text.

Having Cusack survive was majorly lame. I realize it wasn't the screenwriter's fault since it was adapted, but still. It would've been more meaningful to have him burn, then have his wife find the tape recorder in a bag of salvaged items.

I give it 8/10.
