i'm determined to start watching my weight. i eat healthy things but sometimes in ridiculous quantities so, mostly i'm determined to be reasonable with portion size! my metabolism just isn't what is was when i was younger and the scale has been creeping in the wrong direction for too long. the scale touched 230 just after the New Year, and that was enough to say no more.

i'm currently 225lbs and my target is 195. I'd like to maintain just under 200, as i think this is a healthy weight for my body type. i'm 6'3".

What is your age? I'm trying to drop about 10 - 15 and I seem to do nothing but add it on now.

I’ll turn 40 this year. I can definitely relate to the “nothing but add” feeling!

Over the past couple years, I’ve repeatedly shocked myself how easily I can add pounds. Talk about a change. 10 years ago I could eat anything and everything (and did!!!) with no meaningful side effect to my weight. No more, that’s for sure.

For much of 2019, every time I stepped on the scale it was higher. Crazy. Not that long ago, I could count on some days shedding a pound or two. But more recently, it’s been this meteoric rise. In 2019, I gained at least 20 pounds (to 230), and I refuse to let it go higher.

What makes the weight gain more unsettling is that I’ve been very faithful doing about 30 minutes of cardio, 5 days a week for all of 2019. At best, I’ve gone a few weeks of maintain. But the relentless upward creep always returns. I do feel better than I have in years with my adopted exercise routine, and some of the weight is probably muscle. It’s just clearly not enough to balance my eating and drinking indulgences!

I’m not doing anything drastic. Mostly try to implement good eating habits. For me, this month has been portion control and limit snacking.

Over just a couple of weeks, I’ve dropped 5 pounds pretty effortlessly, so that is encouraging.

That is nice.
I have a new spinner bike (peleton like) and started it last week. 6 days last week 30mins at least a day. I also lift weights 30 - 45 mins a day 5 days a week.

I've really been eating good lately too so I hope something changes for me soon.

You look good at any weight - 195 or 225!

I lost almost 40 pounds over a one-year period three years ago by watching what I eat, so it is doable, and it sounds like you're off to a good start. For me it was something as simple as getting small Cokes instead of large ones (I have "Coke" habit...and a "Sprite" habit and a "Fanta" habit :p)

If you've been inactive for awhile and just started a new workout routine, you need to give it 6-8 weeks before you start noticing a difference on the scale. Your body retains more water when you start exercising again, plus a few other contributing factors. I just don't want anyone getting discouraged if they feel like they're not losing weight immediately. I believe in all of you!

check-in time :)

i've lost 10lbs and now weigh 215lbs. i can't say i'm on schedule, but i have tracked my weight almost daily, and it has trended very consistently lower. i feel maintaining my current routine is pretty manageable. i've lost 10lbs in ~4months.

what's a bit shocking to me is to look at my "225" pic vs. "215", i'd be inclined to reverse the labels if i didn't know any better!! I'm encouraged by the numbers, but the appearance change (degradation??) is a little discouraging. i looks like 1) my skin complexion has worsened, 2) i'm slightly chunkier, and 3) my penis has shrunk!!

maybe the 2nd 10lbs will do the trick?!?
