Regardless of whether or not you like the subject material, it is a good painting. And collectors collect what they collect, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

It's not jackoff material, for sure, but it's a hell of a lot better than anything ever done by Jackson Pollock or Andy Warhol.

Don't be stupid, I love women of all shapes and sizes. Some people here just have no sense of humour. I certainly agree with mailer though, of course it would be a great investment if Lucien Freud is so highly respected.

You probably need to see the painting "Live" in order to appreciate the portrait of the nude. A photo or film of the painting just does not do it justice.

I agree man, I'm sure the fact it's lifesize is pretty impressive. Still amazes me though how these pictures fetch such ridiculous amounts of money, especially when the artist is still alive. More understandable though in cases like Van Gogh.

This reminds me of one of my childhood memories (wrong thread, I know). The Wyeth family lived and painted in my area for many years and are much revered among a lot of local collectors and curators. There was an exhibit on Andrew Wyeth's "Helga" series, towhich my father took me. Towards the end, he very loudly gave his summary of his thoughts on the show.

"Well, Helga wasn't much to write home about."

I was horrified, as was the crowd of people surrounding us.
