Pakistan is now recognizing a third gender. "Hijras" encompass several different categories but they all appear to revolve around folks previously classified as transgender.

Really? Cool! And here I thought that Pakistan was as backwards a country as it can get.

What is surprising is this acceptance from a 96% Muslim country. Thailand has recognised "women of the 2nd category" for a long time.

It doesn't mean LGBT won't be persecuted there still.

We have worldwide problems of RELIGIOUS NUTS trying to impose their sick backward holier than thou laws into others.

The recognition of Hijras is nothing new, has been going on for over a hundred years, and is more a cultural thing rather than some recent enlightenment of Pakistanis:

    HIJRAS

All cultures are backward in the eyes of others.

I wouldn't get too excited about it yet. This is still a nation that can kill you based on their religious views.

Should be pleased but in many sexually repressed countries it is considered favourable to change your gender simply to avoid being gay. Favourable in their eyes that is.
