What fucking year is it in Mississippi, anyway? This is from an article in TPM:

I looked up the original report of the survey results (PDF file here) to see how the question read. It appeared after a series of questions about various Republican political figures:

    "New South," my arse!

Why am I not surprised this poll was taken in Mississippi?
Mississippi is also one of the last states to repeal sodomy laws in 2003 and is still one of the most poorest states in America - The Poorest States In The U.S. (PHOTOS)

Which is not to say that I ever had plans to vacation there in this lifetime, but it does really suck to know that in 2011 it can still feel like society is perpetually stuck in the pre-civil rights era. It also shows some of the damaging effects of steady, polarizing politics practiced by certain members of the GOP over the last few years. They don't have a message of fiscal responsibility and job growth. It's nothing more than a message of hate and division just to win elections. This is one of the main reasons why I can't find it in my heart to support the mass majority of GOP candidates in this country.

When I first saw that article, three things come to mind:

    1) If the Republicans are the party of small/minimal government and personal freedom, then why are they so intent on intruding into the marriage rights of consenting adults?

    2) Civil rights should never be subjected to popular opinion and/or referenda; our system requires an active and impartial judiciary to ensure minority rights.

    3) There are parts of the country where I've never felt safe visiting (or even driving through with out-of-state plates); the deep south is primary among them.

the article failed to mention of the 46% of voters against interracial marriage, 85% also voted for the legalization of intrafamilial marriage.

    troo fackz.

is no like i am calling all of Mississippi's population cousin-fucking, cow-tipping, slack-jawed, mouth breathing, banjo twangin', rust bucket drivin, trail park livin, sheet wearin', inbred, thumbless fuck-tards.

    just 46%

    cuz that would be rude.

okay, so maybe i might have implied. a lil bit.

I expect you would get the same results, or worse, in Arkansas.

Oh, dear, now you have given me occasion to tell the foulest joke I know:

    Q. How does an Arkansas mother know when her daughter is having her period?

    A. When she tastes blood on her son's dick.

W-H-E-E-E-W! I'll bet the moderators pull your thread. I've never heard that one, thankfully.
The worst I've heard is Arkansas females have a distinct set of the three rs. Readin', writin' and runnin' from your brothers.
