Has anyone tried this? I saw it on a non-cooking forum and was a tad curious. It doesn't say what size mug to use. Also, I like frosting, I guess I can just use Betty Crocker.

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons cake flour (that's plain flour, not self-raising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips(optional)
a small splash of vanilla essence
1 coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well
Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla essence, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Just had to try it!
I used like a heavy soup bowl (mug) with a handle on it and it worked just fine, cake came up to within 3/4 of an inch from over flowing. Not sure how it would work in a coffee mug, but I would think it would have to be a large one for sure.
What a great quick snack, without having to make a whole cake and have to either pawn it off on to someone else, or be forced to eat it yourself.

I added the chocolate chips, which sank to the bottom and if tipped out on to a plate would acted a frosting.

Sounds yummy and worth try but I prefer yellow or white cake =

Yellow cake: Omit the cocoa powder
White cake: Omit the cocoa powder and egg yoke.

Sounds good. I will have to buy a few of the ingredients that I don't have on hand and try it some time.

I knew I could depend on an LPSG member to try this out and report back to us.

Sounds quick and easy! Also a way to make a cake without being tempted to eat the whole thing.
What's wrong with eating a whole cake? :biggrin1:

Cake without chocolate :261:
My feelings exactly!
