Guess this is more of a personal quest to lose weight but would be cool if someone else wants to join in.

As of this morning, I am 6'3" and 285 lbs. Granted I have a big frame. When I was a college athlete I was about 200 pounds and that was with basically no body fat. I really can't get much lighter than that and be healthy.

My goal is to get down to a healthy 210-215 in 6 months. I know people are going to say that is not healthy but I've done that pace before and felt fine if not great after losing the weight. Me losing a pound compared to a 160 pound person losing a pound percentage wise is a lot different.

I plan on updating this thread weekly or monthly with some pictures to see the progress. Maybe more for myself but a little support, encouragement, and/or peer pressure doesn't hurt. :)

On a side note, be nice to get that inch back that my fat pad is hiding.

Good luck to you. I've lost 25 pounds this year and have 15 to go. It actually does make my junk look bigger and I can measure about 3/4" bigger than last year.

Good luck man, I would like to lose 25 lbs...so I'm in!

I'm shorter, 5'7 and I am at 200. I've lost 60 lbs in 2010/2011 but kind of stayed there. So tips will help as well.

I'm in!! Just weighed myself 2 weeks ago, at 260 (eek!!). The heaviest I've been, is 310...and lost 100 pounds in 3 years...kept it off for years until I got into my first serious relationship...now I'm in a serious relationship again, but much more wise than in the previous one...
I've been doing these 5 mile walks lovingly refered to as "the circle of death" walks 4 days a week. I'm already feeling a difference! :) good luck to everybody!

I'm in with you. I'm at my heaviest I've ever been I think I'm hovering around 200-215. I want to be around 160. I'm willing and determined more so than ever before to ve healthy. I will not give up this time. For all of you who are starting diets and are losing weight great job you are amazing. Stay strong, stick with it, and never give up. It's a tough fight. My friend told me it took 27 years to put on this weight its not going to come off quickly or easily.

I'm determined.

Side note: I hate that my fat pad is hiding the inches I use to have. Ugh that kills every inch of me, but it makes me push harder.

Very kewl and good luck! I was at 270lbs on January 1st and am down to 220lbs. Making myself accountable, by posting daily updates on Twitter helped a TON. But also, I started a program called Medifast, which focuses on balanced nutrition and keeping your metabolism high.

Good luck!

Good Luck, guy. Have just dropped from 215 to 183 and would like to get to 170-175. Hard but worth the dedication and hard work. Don't think of it as a diet but a change in lifestyle. Eat everything but watch the amount. Everything in moderation is the key word to success. Eat slowly and enjoy the food you are eating.

Normally I would be on board for this kind of thing but guys, all I can say this time is: I pass.

Over the past couple of years I've dropped about... 96lbs. I went from 280 to 183. My goal is to get around 179, and 175 would be my lowest. I did it through WeightWatchers. I know that people seem to think the whole BMI thing is bogus because I did too, but trust me... It's NOT! When I was at 280 I thought that getting in the 170s was ridiculous and impossible. Now I think that the 170s should be a MAX weight for my height. It just means getting really lean compared to the 'norm' in the USA which in all honesty... is fat.

Congrats to all on their weight loss successes though! I really strongly recommend people look at what dietitians (not nutritionists... there's a big difference) and what the BMI recommendations are for your height. They are actually accurate. 50 years ago people were about the same height ranges we are now but they were much healthier and thinner.

And Gulliver16: I have made a lot of friends in the weight loss and dietetics community over the past two years. Losing any more than 2lbs per week puts severe stress on the heart and brain tissues. Furthermore severe weight loss like that isn't sustainable. Anyone can go on a 'diet.' Losing weight and keeping it off is a lifestyle change. Unless there is an underlying medical issue, it's a lifestyle problem that causes a person to get fat. I would focus on your health and eating/exercise habits before focusing on weight loss. Once you fix the problem (your lifestyle) the symptoms (too much fat) go away by themselves. Same thing with doctors. They treat the illness, not the symptoms. I also feel that losing that much weight that quickly isn't feasibly healthy for someone who is starting to... mature in life. I don't want ANYONE rupturing their heart simply because they want to squeeze into their skinny jeans! ;)

You're on!

I'm 5'9", and I'm uncomfortable saying exactly what I weigh, but I will say that it's 40 pounds more than I would like to weigh (and what I weighed for most of my life, except the last 2 years).

For quite a while now, I've been almost completely inactive due to depression, and it is very hard to get motivated to get moving again.

But I'm taking some steps to give myself more motivation, because I know that exercise will very likely improve my depression, and with less depression, exercise will get easier and easier.

I've taken about 2 1/2 years of bellydance classes in the past, and am an intermediate level student, but have been out of the studio for a long time.

Just yesterday evening, I talked with my husband about returning to lessons, and he agreed that would be a very good thing. I'll probably have my first (new) lesson in about 2-3 weeks.

Also, I will be beginning a weight training program (nothing massive, just enough to build some strength and tone) and doing that on alternate days with the dancing.

I don't want to give myself a deadline for losing 40 pounds. But I'll say this: at a healthy, realistic rate of weight loss (1 pound a week), I should be *almost* there, or there, by the time my bellydance studio holds its annual winter Gala.

So, I'm going to bookmark this thread, and I really appreciate gulliver starting it!

P.S. I'm not so sure about posting pictures to show progress, but I will post pounds and inches lost periodically. I'm going to measure myself right now to get a baseline.

Anyone do workout videos?? I'm thinking of doing the atkins plan and doing the biggest loser workout. I've been trying to do more but my legs are in my way right now. Even walking for like two miles I have pains in both legs just right above my ankle.
Ugh.~Still Determined~

It can be done. My sister lost 135lb over 18 months while on a healthy eating and exercise plan. It does take willpower to avoid the cream cakes and sugary snacks, but she was eating more than I was and still losing weight.

The important thing is to have a balanced diet and not to overdo it. If you plan to lose a lot of weight, check with your doctor before you start and (s)he may give you advice on diet and exercise levels to help you along.

One of the best things you can do is to stop driving short distances and start walking.

I dropped a ton of weight a few years back - not exactly sure how much but something around 60-70 lbs. I've been bouncing around 170-175 lbs ever since. All that I did was about an hour of cardio a day, 6 days a week, broken into two activities (30 minutes elliptical, 30 minutes on the bike). Couple that with a little light weight work and watch your diet.

Easy diet tip: don't eat anything white. If it is white, it has been maximally processed and is of minimal nutritional value (big generalization, but mainly true). No potatoes, white rice, sugar, ice cream, etc. Pretty simple to follow this.

Follow that diet and exercise plan and watch the weight melt off. Downside/upside is that you'll need to buy new clothes.
