I'm not after big muscles, adding flexibility and a little muscle tone would be great. Can anything be done to my butt?
Not real saggy yet but I would like to see if I could improve it any.
I usually only use the stationary bikes or treadmill on cold / rainy days . I walk 2 miles almost every day and go for a couple hour mountain bike ride or swim laps.
No physical problems.
I would rather go to the gym every other day rather than every day.
Should I pay a trainer to figure out a routine for me? I don't want a trainer every time I go but a couple times at first because I really don't know what to do .
Thanks

You can make physical improvements through weight training at any age. Just place extra focus on form, safety, and recovery. There is lots of research that show retirement age lifters benefit from short, frequent lifting sessions. You could go every other day, lift for 30-45 minutes, and do very well.

Day 1: Squat, horizontal press, row
Day 2: Off
Day 3: Hip hinge, vertical press, row
Day 4: Off
Day 5: Squat, horizontal press, row
Day 6 Off
Day 7: Off or start over with day 1 but switch vertical press with horizontal press.

Throw in some vanity lifts if you want. Keep the rep scheme simple and on the lower end, 5-8 reps per set.

A trainer might be good to check on form early on. I don’t personally see the need to use one full time unless you are competing and even then, probably not necessary.

If you are a novice, maybe start with machines rather than free weights.

Good luck.

Not at all.

Go for it!

I’d get a trainer to start with, one that emphasised 5 reps multi joint movements particularly hip extension, who was very particular about correct form on your lifts.

Enjoy the benefits (and compliments)

it’s never too late! start at a gym near your house, it makes a big difference, trust me
having a professional to guide you is also super helpful, especially at the beginning. enjoy the journey
