After more poking around, some of them women are beautiful, in that overtanned, overstretched over-botoxed, plastic chest and lips porn starlet sort of way.

I didn't even have a quick look, because I figured that's what would be there - Pamela Anderson-Fugly look-alikes and their male counterparts.

Sounds like the ugly people from High School got together and made a site to punish others.

How so? Everyone has to vote on how beautiful people are, why would that be the ugly people?

There is an oline dating service that you might have hear of that attempts to weed out unattractive members. Only beautiful people are allowed to join BeautifulPeople Network.

Prospective members must submit a photo and profile; other members of the opposite sex (yes, they weed out them too) rate the person over a 72-hour period--deciding whether they are worthy of joining the community.

I wonder if this is as shallow as it appears. I mean, MENSA has a fairly exclusionary membership. Shouldn't all private groups be allowed to define their membership? I took a quick gander at their website. Not that impressed. Yes the people are attractive but not overwhelmingly so. They are all young. I'm sure that some people would find Greg Hodge, the managing director of Beautiful People.com, to be ugly.

This seems to be more of a social networking site designed to stroke the ego, rather than find someone a date. This site could accomplish one thing: get all the stupid... errr... beautiful people to interbreed, eventually rendering them unable use the Internet and ending this idiocy.

I wonder how long it will be before someone sues this website for not being admitted, claiming mental anguish. 9 out of 10 people are rejected.

I heard about that site five years ago. They were featured on Entertainment Tonight. They get perks to private parties where all the beautiful peeps hang out.

I never bothered joining. If I wanted that, I would still be working at the gay bar.

One big diff, though, HG... on LPSG you are not required to submit a photo and bio, and allow the selection panel to either accept or reject you for membership. Glass house invocation does not apply.

I checked out some of the profiles. They're fairly non-descript, and even the pictures aren't all that flattering or demanding. Pretty much anything you can capture from a cell phone. In any case, I thought it was hilarious to see how all the friends one puts on a profile are all of the same-sex. I would think that if I wanted to net someone beautiful, I'd be more interested in the opposite sex. (Didn't notice if profiles said much for sexual orientation.)

That was really aimed broadly at the tone in most of the replies that preceded my own, not to Lee's specifically.

It seems that many are quick to demonize the group over there as contemptible and shallow without the benefit of directly experiencing the site or its membership. I know I've read more than one testimonial from members of LPSG as to how they joined as a lark, expecting a bunch of pretentious, egotistical crap and were surprised by what they actually found.

Given that much of this same attitude could easily be expected from the general public with regard to LPSG, I do consider it something of a glass house...and still think it foolish to so cavalierly toss aspersions at another site just because it might appear ridiculous on its face.

I might join.

Ha ha. Its true. I agreed with Dc, but hazelgod has it, this site would be considered ridiculous by most. I bet there are some really nice beautiful people at that site.
