I'm not arguing with your description of the controversy at Gitmo. I hope they get things cleaned up and fix the process and procedures by which suspected terrorists are tried. The point is, Mr. Obama spouted off relentlessly that he would close it right away, and he has not - nor will he ever.
Your bitching about a meaningless point. "Right away" is basically "as soon as possible". He needs to relocate the prisoners somewhere else, and his options are being politically stonewalled. If he issued an Executive Order and released them all to their own devices, he would release a lot of dangerous people to their own devices and create a huge national security threat. Criticizing him for choosing not to do so is calling him stupid for taking the best option for our national security. The better point is, if he wasn't being politically blocked, he could close the prison right away. Who is at fault? The President for being smart, or the dickhead politicians sacrificing our country's credibility for short term political gain?
Let's see what happens come August.
That's a far cry from "In Iraq as far as the eye can see.", and "Your post is from 2009. Things change." Don't assert your lack of faith in the President as truth.
No - what I'm complaining about is that Mr. Obama PROMISED and PLEDGED full transparancy on congressional litigation on C*Span - he said it dozens and dozens of times. Of course, it was just another in his incredible arsenal of lies and fabrications.
Apparently, I'm misunderstanding. I thought repeatedly that you meant "legislation" instead of "litigation", but apparently there was some Congressional Hearing I missed out on. What was it about?
So - when Mr. Obama was selling his stimulus plan to the people of the U.S. and tirelessly reminding us that there would be shovel ready jobs upon passage of the bill, what he really meant was that "there will be some jobs in construction 18 months or so down the road, so keep the shovel in your garage for the next year and a half or so."
As I said, some places got underway sooner than others. I live around the Atlanta area, which is notorious for having road construction all the time. Because such projects were always a priority for the Atlanta area, we got started again on them fairly quickly. The blame might lie with your state government.
Here is your double-talking president on 'Earmarks'

Enough said?
Obama isn't perfect, but he made an intellectual error here rather than lying. He specifically addressed earmarks as the "process by which individuals insert pet projects without review." This definition isn't actually accurate. An earmark is ANY additional restriction which controls how allocated money from a bill is spent. So while he might have said ban ALL earmarks, his definition afterward makes it kind of obvious what he meant. Again, use logic here. Holding him to his first statement means you'd be telling him he has to choose between wiring the money to every state and saying "Have fun. I hope you spend this wisely." or being called a liar by people determined to make him look bad. I'll take option two, thank you.
