With Mayor Pete running for President do you think the country is ready to elect an openly gay man?

pretty insufficient set of answers for what is really two questions

Question 1) Is the country ready for an openly gay President?
Question 2) Is Pete Buttigieg a good candidate for president?

For question #1, sure.
For question #2, sure.

We are as ready as we were for the black candidate that did not have a chance in hell to win either in the primaries or the general, yet some how he did both. If your pretext is are we ready for "ABC" the answer is always no, we're not. Are we ready for an orange-skinned serial adulterer to carry the flag of the religious right? No, but here we are.

Mayor Pete's candidacy will be evaluated as a package - not his package and where he uses it - his policies, proposals and vision. He's in a large field. and the gay issue is only an issue for people who will never vote for a Democrat ever, so in the grand picture it is simply not an issue, just a "first". That is significant, but not defining, in my opinion.

Gay president? We should be past that. Same question was asked about first Catholic. And the first Hollywood actor. And first black president. And will about gay, Jew, Muslim, rap star, ginger, woman, etc.

The question is asked by those who profit from division.

The way I see it (which is of course the most appropriate) is that we are hiring someone for a temp job lasting four years, and we have the option to renew. When I hire someone, I want the best person for the job. Period. Full stop. I pay well, provide good benefits, and respect the people I work with. I don't care what color underwear they wear or what God they worship and neither do my patients.

Regarding the candidate specifically, I don't know enough about him or his politics to know whether I would support him.

#1. Probably, but I couldn’t care less, personally
#2 he seems like a good candidate. I don’t know if he’s the best candidate.

Good points, but remember Trump said he is owed two extra years, so he might stick around a bit longer . . .

Those who profit from division have always made those questions impossible.

I have no problem with a gay president,...or lesbian or any sexual desire of individual if they are the right person. I dont know, until now he has been at the bottom of the pack so I haven't paid any attention to his platform. Now, being that I dont really care for any of the front runners....I am starting to look down field, but those folks have a lot of work to do or no way will any of them make it much longer.

As an admitted and unashamed fiscal conservative and social moderate (at least) or liberal...

IDGAF about the advertised sexual preference of POTUS. Don't care about that any more than I do whether he likes Monet, broccoli, the metric system, Lady Gaga or the color blue.

What I do care about is how the economy functions, whether Americans understand the value in our system of government, whether Americans understand the value of community (caring for others less fortunate), and whether my children will have the same opportunity that I had to succeed via hard work.
