Teachers union leader blasted for pushing to keep schools closed as she vacations in Puerto Rico | Daily Mail Online

The unsmiling, judgmental talking heads at Fox News were all over Chicago School Board member Sarah Chambers for vacationing in the tranquil, azure blue waters of the Caribbean while everyone else in her school district were busy dodging gang violence and digging out of snow drifts. The Daily Mail from the UK described it as a tropical getaway. But folks, there are tropical getaways and there are tropical getaways. Hers ranks somewhere at the lowest echelon of budget vacations.

I've been studying her two vacation photos in detail. In one pic from her sarah4justice Instagram account she is smiling broadly, clad in a bikini, with a usual assortment of queen palm trees in the background designed to evoke envy and jealousy from anyone who's felt imprisoned in their homes these past COVID months. But it is of little use when attempting to establish location or the name of the resort she was luxuriating at. The second photo is much more revealing. Beyond Sarah's feet looks to be a tiny pool area, typical of a dated 1950s hotel in the Old San Juan area of town.

Having spent a night or two in delightful, historic mid-century Caribbean hotels, I can attest some of those tropical "luxury-budget" resorts are not for the faint-of-heart. Be prepared for water temperature in the shower which can change from ice cold to scalding hot the instant another guest flushes a toilet. Window air conditioners that clatter and howl like an old Ford Pinto four-cylinder engine with a slipping alternator-fan belt.
Wherever the hell in Puerto Rico that Sarah Chambers booked, rest assured it wasn't a Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons. So I for one am giving the girl a break on her Christmas/New Years getaway.

Which raises the question why Fox News spent the better part of a fifteen minute segment leading viewers to believe the vacationing school board member was staying at one of these: The 10 BEST Luxury Hotels in the Caribbean Worth the Splurge | Jetsetter

It is quite simple

She is from Chicago, where according to right wingers NO ONE would ever want to live

She is head of one of those despised GD "unions"

Even worse it is the "Teachers Union" which is the sole source of all that ails K - 12 education in the US

She for sure is "a liberal" who of course voted for Biden, Clinton and Obama

Last but not least is that she iS A WOMAN

The only cherry on the sundae they are missing is if she had been black

Important addendum: Yummy Seafood Mofongo and what the heck it is. Mofongo - Wikipedia

Sarah Chambers said she and her friends were going out in Old San Juan that evening in search of a Puerto Rican culinary delight known as seafood mofongo. As an unadventurous white American, I wasn't certain that I've ever eaten mofongo. In-fact it sounded somewhat profane. I Google searched and it turns-out to be a delightful recipe consisting of a ball of plantains with seafood or other goodies stuffed inside. It shouldn't hurt her bikini figure any.

We have one in Canada too. (Probably more than one.)
But this guy didn't settle for anything as mundane as Puerto Rico with the girls. He spent the holidays with the crème de la crème on St. Barts no less. That is until Doug Ford heard about it and Minister Phillips had to scurry home. I think he was fired before his pampered butt hit the ground in Toronto.

Nothing quite like a Canadian finance minster with a touch of class.

St. Barts is a fabulous, eclectic island on many levels. For those in aviation, one of the island's biggest attractions is its airport which sports a 2,100 foot runway with a hill on the approach end of runway 10. A normal final approach at your neighborhood international airport is flown at a 3-degree angle. At St. Barts it's 6-7 degrees and pilots must take particular care to be at the correct Vref (approach speed) on short final-- or initiate a go-around early. Woe to those who are "hot and high."

Here is a Piper PA-23-250 Aztec flying into St. Barts airport by charter pilot Theodore Throttle. He discovers too late that the gentle, docile twin's wings were designed with the same Clark Y airfoil that William T. Piper put in his WW-II J-3 Cub training aircraft. Flown a tad too fast over the threshold, the damn thing will float until next Sunday. Fortunately the sands of St. Jean beach acted like an aircraft carrier's arresting cables. Nothing was bruised except the pilot's ego.
