Maybe Joe Wilson jumped on the sword for the good of the party and will be rewarded in heaven.

Yeah, I guess I thought that part was obvious...and I see they've updated with a link to the donations page for Rob Miller (Joe's opponent). The contribution tally is $430k+ currently. Almost half a mil in less than 24 hours. Way to go, Joe!

Ehh as much as I'd like to sling shit over the Republicans for this one, I can't help but think back to Bush's 2005 state of the union where he was heckled himself by the Democrats. Just manufactured outrage here, move along.

You have plenty of other things to be pissed at Republicans for, don't belittle it with crap like this.

I don't know if anyone noticed during the speech, but when Wilson yelled out you could see Nancy Pelosi look shocked for a second, and then mouth the words, "It's that Joe Wilson."

This made me wonder if Joe Wilson is kind of like Congress' version of the guy in prison who flings his feces at the guards. It's shocking when you don't expect it, but after a while you just learn not to walk right in front of his cell, or to tase him first.

How on earth would you poor fragile Americans deal with the Australian Parliament then?

Your shock at politicians behaving badly is quite comical.
    Here heckling is a sport.

YouTube - Prop ruling turns Parliament into a circus

Outbursts like that is far more common in parliaments. Can we ship him overseas to a place that has a parliament?

Darlin' our "Polies" would make minced meat of him. He's strictly amateur.

yeah i used to watch the English "Prime Minister's Questions" segments on CSPAN here...they were hysterical...loved it.

    we should do that here.

it would be awesome if the opposition got to ask questions of the president on a regular basis, televised.

it would force all the liars out in to the open, on both sides of the aisle.

i loved watching John Major and Tony Blair take questions...totally hysterical...

i have always had funny dreams of being an MP and saying:

"Will the right honourable gentleman from Sussex please shut the fuck up"

    LOL

Wilson's opponent in the next election has received almost (or more than) $500,000 in campaign donations since last evening. Love it!

I don't have any problem with heckling the president on principle. I wish political discourse were a lot *more* combative. In fact, when Obama began his speech by talking about people who died after their medical treatment was delayed due to insurance gaps, I was hoping he would explicitly say that the insurance companies -- and by extension their lapdogs in Congress -- *killed* those Americans. But hopefully most people are smart enough to connect those dots.

Not a good idea. If the American congress adopted parliamentary rules it would devolve into something like Hannity and Combs or Point-Counterpoint. Or Taiwan's legislature, where fist fights or commonplace. The rules are there for good reason IMO.

But I've always liked Question period too. Canadians have been well entertained over the years by it. Remember Trudeau and the fuddle duddle incident? (he called another member a 'mother fucker' on the floor of the house and later claimed he said 'oh fuddle duddle')

But the US has always put the Prez on a higher pedestal than other counties. He is the Head of State, whereas a PM is not. So it would be more like a Member of Parliament heckling the Queen.

Paul Keating was and is one of the most vitriolic and caustic politicians Australia has ever had. Bar none!
