Both could be true. If the hoi poloi vote on what is presented to them, then they have the final say. But it does entirely depend upon what is presented to them. If what the majority want is not presented as one of the choices, do they actually get what they want?

That's the way referendums have always worked. Take a look at the ones Quebec runs every 10 years or so, or the European ones, as examples.

That's the other point I was trying to get across.

The lower house of any body has been about letting the lower class have their say, so let them have it. I find that polls have been more accurate than you realize. Look at the polls and you'll see we as a country want out of Iraq but seem willing to stick it out just a little bit more. Sounds about right to me.

The upper house has been about restraint against the masses, so keep it.

It IS like it's never worked the way its supporters have hoped.

It hasn't been logistically feasible before and it therefore doesn't seem like it has had a chance to fail. I mean the actual idea. I would like to try it on a state level and see.

So tell me what state did this already?:smile:
