I agree, and I don't know why they do it, it takes more time messing around trying to make your post l33t than it does to just type it.

I see things like "l33t" as l33t-speak, and there's really not that much of it here, but I see "str8" as shorthand, and "m8", well, that's just lazy.

I am so glad I am not the only person here holding this opinion. I can understand the occasional misspelled word--that happens to everyone every now and again--but this proliferation of needless abbreviations and short cuts, to me, seems like laziness. I can't even figure out what the heck "l33t" is supposed to mean! Good God--what is happening to the English language?

    c u all l8r.

Fair enuf. I honestly only started typing a few words like that because I thought I needed to 'get with the programme'.

My mom was an English teacher and she'd be very pissed off if she saw how slack I'd become.

It doesn't bother me, because its establish slang for horny people. I never exactly knew what str8 meant anyway. Are they really straight, are they "straight" but closet bisexuals?

The Only Method Of Typing That Really Really Pisses Me Off Is People Who Feel Compelled To Capitalize The First Letter Of Every Word. I'm Not Sure Why People Do This, Even Doing It Now Its Difficult To Type Quickly And Reading It Really Bothers Me.

EVEN ALL CAPS DOESN'T BOTHER ME THAT MUCH. The argument here is "Caps means you're yelling". Well I think the majority of us are bright enough to not be offended by someone who is lazy and leaves caps lock on. Whoever is being offended by caps needs to take a little break from online conversations.

Eh... as far as I know, "l33t" means "leet"... which means "elite". It's supposed to be some super nerdy way of communicating online among gamers and such.

    Urban Dictionary: l33t

I used to [PC] videogame[competitively], and for what it's worth, I've never seen anyone genuinely type like that. (Unless deliberately parodying the stereotype they suffer under.)

Any form of 'leetspeak' is much more likely to be used by 12-16 year old girls who spend all their time on MSN/MySpace etc.

    Click me :biggrin1:

    Know what's equally annoying?

    This:
I've never seen so much l33t talk in my life on these forums. What's so hard about typing out the word; instead of using words like: st8, m8 etc..

It's annoying to say the least, and it makes it hard to for me to read.

Just saying, it's annoying and makes it hard for use to read.

What's doubly annoying is when you see l33t mixed with gangsta posturing, or using a multitude of zzzz's and $$$$$$$ signs for the letter s.

There's nothing "elite" about childish AND stupid. Just "common".
