I've been learning a little bit about prep, but I don't really know much. I know that if you're on it, the chances of you getting HIV is VERY slim.

Here's my question,

If person A is on prep, and they get fucked by person B that has HIV, the chances of person A contacting it is very slim, right?

What happens if another person, person C, is neg and fucks person A after they've gotten fucked by person B? Can person C still contact HIV?

I think they can, right?

Nope Person C will not contract HIV because person A did not get infected, they are not "carrying" the virus.

A few quick notes:

- PrEP is virtually the same medication someone who is HIV + takes.

- Studies have shown that if a sero negative individual has unprotected sex with a sero positive individual that is undetectable then there is very little risk that the sero positive individual will pass HIV to the negative individual.

- It is much safer (and advised) to use PrEP with a condom.

Here is website that will answer or clarify:

http://www.whatisprep.org/

http://men.prepfacts.org/

http://women.prepfacts.org/

I hope that helps, knowledge is power ;)

Good answer @xmarksbreakdownx.

Here in the UK, the supreme court has recently ruled that PREP should be made available to vulnerable men under the state health scheme, so free of charge.

It is Truvada - a combo pill of two drugs (not the three for HIV treatment). At present it is still under patent and costs about £11 a day (~US$15), but next year comes off patent and a generic is expected to be about 1/20th of that cost.

I mean if you're doing a gang bang and there are fluids everywhere from different men it's unsafe sex regardless of whether or not you're on prep. But, if I have sex with 5 different men a week and I'm on Truvada seven days a week the chances are close to 96-99% that I will not get HIV. And if a man who is HIV+ has an undetectable viral load with meds the chances are almost zero.

Haha. I doubt it would be that cheap in the US.

Thanks everyone! I was just wondering how it all works after hearing my friend talk about it.

i think he means that if person (B) HiV+; that doesnt take Prep fucks Person; (A)HiV-, leaves his HIV+ load in A's ass; will person C catch HIV from person (B)? because middleman (A) is protected from PREP. If this makes sense?

Yep. That's correct.

hello there, something is bothering me as i had a bareback sex with an escort who claimed he is on PrEP. I don’t like condom so i fucked him bareback. Yes, i was the top. However, now im feeling not confident because what if he had a client before me that is HIV+? Do i have to worry? Im getting paranoid to be honest. And lastly, will normal blood test detects HIV or i should do a HIV testing separately? Thanks

Can I just say you will probably get a lot more traction on this topic if you posted in the “ask a gay man” forum rather than this one? Maybe request it be moved?

Ok firstly as an escort this his job, so he would be doing everything he can to protect himself and his clients, including regular testing.

His previous client would have had to infected him to then be carrying the virus to then pass it on. Prep is about as safe as using condoms at preventing HIV being passed on.

a normal blood test would not detect HIV as the person doing the testing would not be looking for the antibodies. If you are worried at all just get yourself tested. If you are having regular sex with multiple partners you should be getting tested regularly anyway??
