We watched this the other night and both thought it was outstanding. Starring Peter Firth, Julliene Moore, and Nicholas Hoult, it examines the life of a recently widowed man. I think the direction, by first time director Tome Ford was outstanding and the fact that it was shot in twenty-one days on a tight budget is remarkable.
Peter Firth was interviewed about the role by Terry Gross on NPR earlier this summer and that sparked my interest.
Has anyone else seen it and have any comments?

It was one of the best films (movies) I saw last year. I thought the story and the performances were outstanding. I think they both deserved (Firth and Moore) the Oscar, too bad I'm not in charge of such things. It is one of the few I would not mind owning and watching again, but I am currently taking a break from anything emotional and/or thought provoking.

I thought the two leads were excellent, esp Firth's performance which was a masterclass in acting.I'm sorry to say that Nicholas Hoult is NO actor, and rather spoiled it for me.I would, however, recommend reading the book it's heaps better than the film.Like many critics have said it's overly directed and more than a little antiseptic for my liking...Hey ho! Worth watching for Colin Firth's performance though..

Yeah I absolutely loved this movie, it's completely different to the book, but it's achingly beautiful and Julianne Moore is at her freckly best in it. Tom Ford is God!

From the opening frame I was transfixed by this film. Absolutely captured me in its spell of fragile emotion. All the perfrmances were superb and quite frankly I'm usually not a Julianne Moore fan but I enjoyed her performance this time round. I don't know if it is because of what surrounds me in my own life now but I was an emotional, weeping wreck at the end of this film.
