You're out on the sea in a large yacht when suddenly a massive storm comes out of nowhere, wrecks the boat and kills most of the passengers and crew. The only survivors are you, an extremely attractive twenty-something and a wealthy, middle-aged man in his 40s.

With the yacht quickly sinking all three of you rush towards the lone remaining lifeboat and you are the first to get in. However, after getting into the lifeboat you realize that there is only room for one more passenger. Immediately realizing the situation the twenty-something and middle-aged man both try to bribe their way onto the lifeboat. The extremely attractive twenty-something offers to have sex with you after you're both been rescued. The wealthy man offers you $100,000 in cash if you let him on the lifeboat. They are both known as people of their word, so you believe they will follow through.

The yacht is sinking fast and you need to make a decision. Who will you choose?

$100,000 vs sex. One seems a lot harder to obtain than the other. I know my answer.

The sex vs money is part of it, but what about their ages? Is the 20 something more deserving to live because of their youth? Or, does the wealthy man more deserving because of the way his wealth benefits society?

Whichever one looks the tastiest...cause you don't know how long you will be in the lifeboat.

We are all on a lifeboat wally, rich, poor and the good looking, we are not treating it very well, and there is nowhere else to go :)

Survival skills and celestial navigation. Fuck everything else.

Did the rich dude Titanic his boat by reducing emergency equipment for aesthetics?

Nice third option. :)

It's easy because it's a false dilemma. Saying that in a constructive criticism manner... Give it some more thought and give us something better than this. I can think of 2 or 3 real moral dilemmas I've faced off the top of my head.

Hmm fair point. Let's say that you're not that far from land. Just too to swim.
Don't want to get too technical, but what sought of lifeboat is it. Inflatable with cover, or the old style dingy type. Is the girls name Mary Anne or Ginger, and the rich guy Thurston? Can't of gone far if they're not far from shore, probably a 3 hour tour before the weather started getting rough.

Nice.

Mary-Anne was hotter than Ginger by a mile. So it's Mary-Anne.

Assuming the attractive 20 something is a woman I pick her. Chances are she weighs less and is more naturally buoyant, two things much more important than a future promise of sex or $100K given the situation...add to that I think she'd be much less likely to or able to physically harm me after the fact if rescue isn't immediate

The extremely attractive twenty-something offers to have sex with you after you're both been rescued. The wealthy man offers you $100,000 in cash if you let him on the lifeboat. . . The yacht is sinking fast and you need to make a decision. Who will you choose?
Call me Goody Two Shoes, but I wouldn't need a bribe to save someone's life. Especially, the good-looking woman's. First off, I've never had any trouble getting sex from good-looking women. More importantly, I have a gorgeous wife waiting for me, and if I want to keep it that way I'd better not be taking bribes of sex from good-looking women on lifeboats.

With that out of the way, whom do I choose? My immediate thought would be the twenty-something. She comes closest to the old seafaring command, "Women and children first!" However, a little further thought might lead me to reconsider the wealthy man's offer of $100,000. Couldn't that money be donated to a worthwhile charity, like cancer research or something? That's tempting.

I suppose I could flip a coin, but that's probably against the rules and, besides, it wold be avoiding the moral decision. Making the decision a little easier is that the wealthy man is in his mid-40s. Not that old; he still has a lot of life to live. So, sorry miss twenty-something, mister forty-something's not that far behind you.

So, I guess I'd tell her, "Sorry, but you'll have to wait for the next lifeboat" and greet the guy and his cash aboard.

Now there are a couple alternative scenarios:

1) The man has the $100,000 in cash on him. What's to prevent me from just taking the money and shoving him overboard? He'd die anyways; no reason to let the money go to waste. In fact, if he's got $100,000 in cash on him, he's probably carrying lots more. I could send that along to the charity, also. Of course, miss twenty-something could be a problem. Would she tell the authorities? Maybe best to deep six her, too, but, if that's the case, maybe I just better go with Mr Moneybags after all.

2) Another possibility: Let both have a seat and I take the plunge. Very Sydney Cartonesque. "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known." That definitely appeals to my nobler side. . . But, nah, no chance! This Goody Two Shoeing can only go so far. As the Unsinkable Molly Brown said in a similar situation, “I mean much more to me than any one I ever knew." Deep down, I'm shallow, very shallow, and the ocean's very deep. I'm a total narcissist. I can't imagine depriving the world of all my splendor! They're lucky I'm letting one of them on my boat.
