Thanks snoozan for the info.

Her company could have placed her in a non-chemical part of the plant, they decided to fire her instead.

As soon as her doctor comfirmed the pregnancy and sent a fax that she needed to be moved to a safer part of the plant she was fired. Twenty minutes after the fax came in.

They said they fired her because she was a distraction at work even though she had been there for 21 months and had trained several new employees. The company is owned by foreigners.

They also said they would give her a good reference and say that her job had run out, which is total bull***t since they had her doing overtime because they had just gotten a huge contract.

They`re hiding something, i know she`s told me the ventilation hoods don`t work right.

We have found one lawyer willing to even consider the case and he`s from out of town, so that kinda tells you what were up against.

Living in the south can really suck, especially in alabama, we are so far behind on human rights, i guess thats why foreigners keep bringing their plants here.

With this sue happy society of ours, the company probably had a good reason to fire her. If the child came out impaired or deformed from her working in that enviroment she could probably sue the company to bankrupcy. They probably have in their policies somewhere the "rules" about pregnant females and what happens in the case of violating these "rules". Sorry girls, sometimes you have to play the game like a "man".

Interesting that you say that "girls" have to play the game like a "man." Your use of the infantilized noun for females against the adult noun for males speaks volumes.

Huh?

Isn't it the opposite way around?

It doesn't have anything to do with human rights, no unions, cheap land and labor is why they are coming to the south.

Really? I was under the impression that the US was outsourcing a lot of jobs to other countries rather than the other way around. I have heard about companies moving operations to the south for the reasons you state, but I assumed they were already in the US. Interesting.

You are correct, most of the jobs that are \ have been outsourced are textile jobs. Most if not all of the mills at least in my area have been closed. Most of the companies that are locating or moving to the south seem to be in the transportation industry, BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Toyota and I believe Boeing is looking around here now to build a plant.

I'm in the northeast and there have been a lot of layoffs and shutdowns of auto plants-- and we are definitely unionized up here and the cost of living is high. That makes a lot of sense.

I am (supposedly) in IT and many of the jobs in that field have been outsourced to India. I have talked to several people who work in IT and we are ALL having trouble finding or keeping jobs! IT isn't the only field that is happening to though. Just earlier tonight I was talking to a woman who said her ex-husband used to be in medical sales but when he was laid off he couldn't find work (you'd think sales people would have an easier time but he's in a specialty field), and so he is now delivering pizza for a living.

There are some foreign automakers who open up plants in the US. I think there is a new Toyota plant here. I may see if they have any openings for IT people there (or just something I can do!), since my current temp job ends at the end of this week.

My best friend has been out of work for almost a year now. He got laid off after about 18 years service. It's a shame that there is no such thing as job security anymore. They lay off people and bring temps in to fill their positions so they don't have to pay benefits, it's just plain greed!
