Holy wow. You’ve got my sympathies. There must be some local group that can help you with this aspect. Maybe the cancer treatment center can have someone reach out to you. There are so many, many people looking to help that it can’t be hard to find if you ask.

thank you. I've been to a local group but i just didnt click with it. It just felt more like therapy (which I kind of feel like its suppose to) than a place i could just talk. Idk if that makes sense. And i'm not really comfortable talking in person.

To have cancer at your age, it is just my guess that you have testicular cancer. If so, Sloan-Kettering is in NY and (IMHO) the best in the world.
It's actually Large B-Cell Lymphoma that had started in my chest and actually spread to my brain. The good news tho is the chest is all clear. Now I'm working on the brain which is what is taking a long time. I just found out on Tuesday my treatment had stopped working so. Im in the process of finding a new one.
I'm actually going to MSK this week for a second opinion. (I live in NY)

My heart goes out for you, how about stem cell chemotherapy where they use your own stem cells to fight the infectious disease.

Are you going to memorial Sloan Kettering has s supposed to be the best hospital.

I'm going to do stem cell, but I have to wait until the tumor is as small as possible for a higher success rate. And I'm going to Sloan this week for a second opinion. Kinda nervous.

The people at Sloan will have resources for groups, both in person and on line. And some one on one therapists, too.
Ask about social support before you go. Likely a phone call or email will get you what you need on that front.
Ask your current oncology office, too.
And keep asking.
The best patient advocate is the patient.

It's going to be a hard road, so I'm glad you're reaching out. It's a lot to go through at any age and I'm hopeful you kick this in the ass and come through a stronger guy. Having dealt with some tough health issues at a younger age, it definitely shapes you for the rest of your life (in a good way mostly.)

Even if you're naturally quiet, do your best to ask people around you for any help--meals, rides, distractions. Most people really do want to help, even if they don't know you well. Best of luck man.

All my best wishes for you young man!

I haven't had cancer or any serious illness in my life so I have no idea what you're going through. My advice from my own experience is to pick a meditation art and practice it daily. Yoga, zen, Tai Chi--it doesn't matter.

I can completely understand your lack of enthusiasm for attending a group, but it might be worth going just to find the one or two people who you can just talk to. Socially awkward people need to find other socially awkward people to be socially awkward with - there's no pressure then :). Human interaction is good for your immune system.

I am very sorry to read about your current struggle with cancer.

In the UK we have this amazing nationwide charity called the Macmillan Nurses, They are specialist nurses trained in all aspects of cancer care and can provide all types of guidance and advice and can just be "a shoulder to cry on" and do not necessarily fall into the "therapy help groups" that you describe above. I have had a look around on the net to see if you have an equivalent charity in the US but have not been able to locate one thus far. it may be that as the US is so large that charities such as this are State based as opposed to on a national level.

I wish you every success in your future treatments.
