The partisan politics aside, the sentiment is correct.
I think it is easy for men to objectify the objects of their sexual interests, gay or straight. Once done, you can focus only on yourself and can assume you are in control. We tend to like that. It is simple.
When you flip it and look at someone as a human being with agency...you are giving them the right to be difficult, complex, make demands and think of themselves.
Some will argue otherwise, but as a rule, love and sex do not need to have anything to do with each other in our minds.
Wanting to have sex with someone does not mean one supports their equity.
When gay men say, "I am not a racist, I sleep with black men."
I think, "Donald Trump sleeps with women; It doesn't mean he isn't a sexist."
