As i was going to bed last night after a very stressful day, i was talking on the phone with a friend. He asked me what i was wearing. I told him Abercrombie sweatshirt and sweats. And he said that i was "teetering".
i was like what? teetering on what?
Teetering on gay it seems.
From his subsequent follow up, he tells me that its a well known fact that cute, well dressed guys are gay. and that gay guys like abercrombie.
ergo....since i was wearing Abercrombie (and apparently 'cute') that i am gay.
OK. This was ALL new information to me. Since when does liking and wearing cool clothes rearrange the genetic material in a person to decide their sexuality?
Is anyone else aware of this?
Where i grew up everybody loved and wore Abercrombie. Those that did were not gay.
I wasn't aware that sporting a certain clothing brand was gay.
I like my friend but he seems far more convinced of this Abercrombie is gay thing than i am.
What say you?

Check out some of the Mad TV sketches about A&F. You can probably find them easily on youtube. Whether or not it's a gay store probably won't be resolved here, but you'll see that it's not just your friend that has that opinion of them.

I'm not standing behind the generalization but I've lived in both GA and in TN And while living in both places it was a pretty common way of thinking. Both in a big city and a small town. Go figure....some people will always associate certain things with certain ideas or lifestyles....sometimes a bit too much.

Wow. OMG. i wasn't expecting such a response so quickly.
OK. i will concede to popular and trendy. but i like popular and trendy.
And no, i won't tell my friend to go fuck himself. it was a funny conversation.
i and most people i know are apparently oblivious to this image of A&F.

well, now there we go mercurial. i think you hit the nail on the head.
if there is a pun there i am not aware of that either.
ok. so the models are nice looking, young guys. that happen to be wearing A&F stuff.
i don't think that makes a guy gay to look a certain way and be in shape and wear something he is comfortable wearing - say jeans, shirts, w/e.

in my experience A&F is only worn by a few groups of people:
young gay guys
preppy guys who look gay
preppy girls
older gay guys who try to dress and act like they are still 18

not saying those are the ONLY people who wear them...just that in my experience thats who ive seen wearing them. (should also note that half of my wardrobe is A&F...i fall under the young gay guy category)

Wearing A&F is not necessarily gay. However, having a phone conversation with a male friend as you're going to bed--the kind of friend who asks you what you are wearing--now that is pretty gay. :biggrin1:

A&F is considered "gay" because their advertising is so blatantly homo-erotic, centered at young men between 18-22. Their advertising celebrates youth and a leisured, comfortable-in-one's skin masculinity. I compare it to the Calvin Klein underwear ads that featured barely legal teens in sexy in suggestive positions.

Around 2002-05, it almost seemed like a code among young GWM...

Well goodwood I hate to tell you I told you so....Wait a minute no I don't...I told you so....lol Of course that's not to say that straight people (metrosexuals) don't wear A&F, but the majority are gay.
