I know all of you are going to think I'm crazy, but I find them kind of... boring. I guess it's because 90% of all gay porn is well muscled young blonde white guys... They all start to look the same to me. I don't know. Just does nothing for me.

You aren't crazy. I'm just as bored with that as well. I like to see men of color more often than lean or muscular white guys...

I used to work at A&F back in '98-'99 when they made clothes for real people, and the showroom wasn't lighted by just a 50 watt bulb. We were good looking kids, but real kids too. I guess that wasn't enough for A&F. Today, it's a joke.

A good tailor will be able to alter them without the appearance of them having been altered. I know it's a pain, but if you want to that particular brand of jeans...

I used to work at A&F. You're hired because you're good looking and charming. They make no qualms about that. And, you're basically paid to stand there and look cocky and sexy. You're supposed to flirt and the idea is that you look the part, and you want the guys who are into guys to be into you, and the girls who are into guys to be into you, and the guys who are not into guys to want to be like you. It's sales.

This is second hand information from a friend who worked there; so im not posting it as gospel.

From what I understand, they pre-screen new hires based on looks with F2F interviews. They take digital pics of the most competitive people and send them to Corporate for approval. IIRC a few states and countries have banned this practice...but for the most part, it is still in place. A&F also requires that their staff be in all A&F clothes...head to toe...when on duty.

That is pretty much all true.

Hollister is basically Abercombie geared towards the west coast.

Abercrombie - Middle School / Junior High School Demographic

Hollister - High School Demographic

Abercrombie & Fitch - College Demographic

The clothes are all pretty much look the same, just different price points. The reason it works is one, most people do not know the clothes are exactly the same so they will buy an almost identical shirt from Abercrombie for 30% more that they could have purchased at Hollister. Second, it works because, especially in the wealthy suburbs, it is a brand. Parents want their kids to wear it and kids want to wear it to school.

I will be the first to say it, I do not agree with half of the crap this company does, but I must admit, they are marketing geniuses.

Two things I just thought I'd throw in;

First of all, I hate Hollister. Honestly, it's like descending into a cave playing the loudest music imaginable, drenched in bad cologne. Every time I walk in there all I want to do is leave and go... to basically any other store in the mall. Their clothing is cheaper than Abercrombie but it seems like a decrease in the quality of the material is how they get away with that (lower thread count maybe? Like the difference between Banana Republic and Old Navy?) So yeah, Hollister can suck it. I'd gladly pay $30 more dollars for the same shirt at Abercrombie to avoid having to enter a Hollister.

Abercrombie, on the other hand, makes some really great clothing. The stores still smell like terrible cologne but I can get past that. The staff is always really attentive and I don't mind that at all as the models usually are pretty sexy. The only dig I've got on them is that their name is emblazoned on absolutely everything. I don't mind a little icon over the pocket but ABERCROMBIE scribbled across every hoodie and tee shirt turns me off (I'm not a billboard.)

I thought about applying when I was a lot younger but I ended up getting a job at Oakley (the sunglasses) instead. Dressing in head-to-toe merchandise from the store you're working in isn't at all uncommon. We did it at Oakley. Express employees do that too.

My ex is an A&F billboard. He got into it when we went to NYC a few years ago. He's got the jeans, T's, hoodies, sweaters, underwear, leather bracelets, flip flops, you name it - and of course the cologne. The reason is simple, it's a real status symbol in Prague. Czechs, especially young Czechs, are way into showing off and A&F is up there in terms of status symbols of "I've made it".

Hollister and brands like that (Old Navy for example) are not known here so he won't buy there. No one would recognize the logos.

I used to be one too and you're exactly right. All I did was stand there and look the part. I walked around with my shirt open wearing skinny jeans and flip flops. If I wasn't so vain I'd be embarrassed.
