Tbf $4.99 is the lowest you can set it to on Onlyfans. He probably would of made it $1 if he could.

Not true. If you managed to subscribe to him before he changed the price to $5 (which was during the first week of August) your subscription continues to be free up until your renewal date.
Every single subscriber he got after he changed the price has paid the full 5 dollars. Including myself. So let me put on my clown makeup because I foolishly believed that he wouldn't dare to trick his fans.
Only certain folks got in for free. If you were subbed before he set the price to $5, then it was free and will be free for you until 9/9. However, if you subbed after that, so far you’ve paid $5 for comics that have been shared for less (or free) on his other social channels. I would imagine that the majority of his followers came from his Twitter posts and didn’t sub for free. That, plus the lack of clarity on what he plans to post, are why people are upset. It’s understandable.
I think he thought the "Wow! I get free money!" part through, but didn't really think through the part that he might have people paying for both his OnlyFans and Patreon and that he needs to distinguish them and make them different (because who wants to spent $ twice for the same content?).

One other theory is that his waiting for the free subs to run out before he posts the good stuff
Which would still mean that many many people gave him $5 for nothing.
Everything would be totally okay if he just clarified what kind of content to expect and when.
