...up to 36 now, in part as a result of a Beck comment (on another's show) referring to Obama as a racist with "a deep-seated hatred for white people."

    From the Huffington Post:

    More Advertisers Bolt Glenn Beck

Not likely to get him to "stfu" (as in another thread on a similar "celebrity") but might give networks pause as to the "quality" of their content.

Some would see this as censorship, no doubt. Others as "fair market" and "scrutiny of the public" at its finest.

    ???

People who see it as censorship don't understand the meaning of the word. Only the government can "censor" something.

We . . . whoops, rather "I" made the mistake of agreeing to buy a six-month English-language News Package with our regular satellite programming. Amusingly, FOX Faux News is not part of that package, but we get the USA versions of CNN, MSNBC, EVERYTHING UK/BBC!, and a bunch of strange English-language cable news outlets from Holland, Germany, Japan, and a round-up channel of bits and pieces from the ABC, CBS, and NBC morning, afternoon, and evening news. But no FOX. We get FOX Entertainment (4 hours of the Simpsons in Spanish in the morning and 4 more hours at night), and some strange entertainment networks that are dead in the USA but still alive outside of the USA (Warner Bros., for example).

This morning I zapped over to MSNBC to hear Olberman (sp?) chortling about a list of Bill O'Reily's "non-facts" checked and rechecked from the previous evening's FOX broadcast plus 35 of Glen Beck's advertisers having jumped ship.

It's not censorship. I think it's quite democratic; being able to decide where, as a company/corporation, you want to spend your advertising dollars and with whom you wish to be associated. It's been that way since the beginning of radio being supported by the free market -- even earlier.

I'm amazed that the guy on MSNBC's business programming who insisted nothing was wrong with Goldman Sachs and the economy was just fine (and then was lectured to the nth degree by John Stuart) is still employed as someone who can be reliably trusted to broadcast real knowledge regarding business an finance.

If Glenn Beck is accusing the POTUS of being a racist, well . . . it's obvious what uneducated and inbred crowd he's playing to. One reaps what one sows.

Corporations have the right to fund or advertise whatever programs they want. If they decide to pull their support from people that don't support their views, that is their choice. It is not censorship. Especially since Glenn Beck still has his show.

This will be like l'affaire Imus. Some people will be able to feel smugly virtuous, but a boycott will affect nothing. His station will pay no attention at all; the excitement will be mere noise so far as the corporate poobahs are concerned.

The incendiary statement itself could stand some examination. I don't know anything about Beck, but after a year or so of 24/7 coverage I think I'm starting to know a thing or two about Obama. His "hatred for white people," such as it is, is hardly deep-seated. It's a superficial persona deliberately adopted by O. after he decided that it would have some political value.

ummmmm, this is called "good PR"... keep going. Glenn Beck is a hack, just like Keith Olbermann, Sean Hannity and Howard Stern, and almost at this point the now-out-of-touch David Letterman... dumb libtards... you are playing into it. ever watch Law&Order when the dude (and pick anyone of them) with the funky eyebrows looks the rookie in the eye and says "you don't have a case" and adds on some rhetorical quip to supplement it... that's him... looking at you.

go back to figuring out whom killed MJ... and re-starting your deficit counters, default is at $9T... and that's not terabytes, libtards.

On the contrary, Obama's so-called "hatred for white people" is a complete FABRICATION, spun by a morally bankrupt group of conservatives, bereft of anything more innovative OR worthy of contribution.

By spreading such total and absolute bullshit, (something they're quite adept at), they hope to disenfranchise Obama from those who voted for him. That's all it is:

    Divide and conquer. Propaganda 101.

I am still getting those Obama-is-secretly-a-mustlim-terrorist chain emails passed to me by well meaning but ignorant and frightened relatives. I can't believe how much effort people I know and care about actually put into forwarding those idiotic bits of drivel.

    But they do.

I'm tempted to post some of them here for all to view and laugh at.

I liken Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, and Ann Coulter as hypemen. Paid jeerleaders of the right. They $ensationalize. And they talk about how they KNOW liberals and say whatever they want. AND no one gets to honestly debate with them about topics.
You get a bunch of YEAH, YEAH, YEAH...LIBERALISM IS SOCIALISM.

I say let them keep on talking. I know that it is all shit. So, whenever I get tired of the bull shit on Conservative talk radio. I just turn off the radio and do a total media censure--radio, TV and computer.

Beck has a book on the top ten best sellers, he wrote it based on the writings of Tomas Paine, who he thought ran a chain of Taco stands. Those wacky wingers.

Don't you have some cocaine sniffing table to blow your wad on? Cause there is more intelligence in watching your jizm splatter like Rorschach ink blots on mirrors than it is when you jump on a "libtard" riff.

One of the things that Rupert Murdoch and others of his ilk are good at genrating is ratings. In Television ratings increase the number of viewers and the exposure to sponsors. Most of the ultra conservatives exist simply for entertainment value and to raise questions. Over the years I have actually had some respect for a few of them and no respect at all for a few more. The same is true of course of those on the absolute opposite side of the spectrum.

All of the individuals involved on both sides who promise to "inform" us usually have an adjenda of their own to play. Some times these people raise valid questions that never receive believeable answers. Sometimes both sides of the extreme simply blow hot hair to make dead certain that we do not forget that they are there.

Back in the earlier years of television there were a number of individuals who made their mark taking one side of a political stage and then creating havoc by staging phony debates. In Southern California how many of us remember the wonderful and ever conservative blonde bombshell "Wally George". There have been many others over the years. Eventually they all have one thing in common and that is that they paint themselves into a corner with some statement that they make in the heat of both passion and bad script writing or reading. Such is the case with Mr. Beck.

Rush has lost a great percentage of his audiences by virtue of his own personal problems. In time the ultra conservatives and their polar opposites will all run their individual wells dry and when that happens there will be some new younger blood who will rail on and in time make exactly the same mistakes.

I do not feel at all sorry for Mr. Beck. He's had his five minutes of fame. Let is now hear from some other person who takes his place that is a new and fresh face with the same old accusations and disinformation to spread. The same will happen to those on the other side too. For me yesterday is not soon enough.

Woo hoo! Glenn Beck has won over more elderly viewers who think government needs to be out of their Medicare. Pop the corks, it's time to celebrate!!
