It's absurd that the laws in many jurisdictions draw no distinction between an 18 year old having sex with a 16 year old, and a 43 year old having sex with a 16 year old.

Here in Oregon yes it's still rape,other states have lower ages for consent.

If she's under the legal age, there's no such thing as "consensual" sex, since she is by definition under the "age of consent".

some states also have a "grace period" of sorts...in new jersey, the legal age of consent is 16 (i believe)...but there's some sort of 3-year 'window', so for example, a 15yr old could sleep with a 17yr old without breaking the law

Currently, there is a court case in Georgia where a man was convicted and sentenced to prison for having consentual sex with a minor. she was 15 and he was 17. The case is currently in the appeal process.

I just posted something along these lines in another thread. I think there is a big distinction there. The law may not agree, but I think there is.

As long as its legal, you are okay. Just don't do it to a minor even if she begs. Her parents could take legal action against you. It's just safer not to risk that. As for me...I'd probably limit myself to 18 year olds now. And older. But more likely older. 18 year olds are...18 year olds haha.

Yes, there's all kinds of weird contradictions in the sex laws. Here, it's legal to have sex with someone who's 16 - I believe the age of consent was recently raised from 14 to 16.

But if you take a picture or video of the two of you having sex, you're breaking the child pornography laws...

An Emancipated minor is legal at 15, but living with parents still illegal until 18.

In at least one state, Washington, the whole sex code was written as a compromise and it's a complete monstrosity. The "grace period" is 59 months.

Get that? 59 months. One party wanted three years, the other party wanted seven years, so they "compromised" on 59 fucking months. Figure that out. If she's 15 and 11 months, and you're 19 and six months, you're fine. But if you're 20 exactly, you're a "child rapist". That's another piece of crap in the law: There is no more "statutory rape"; it's "rape of a child". So when someone gets arrested for "rape of a child", you don't know if she's 7 or 17.

Well, now, that would be why they call it statutory rape of a minor, since under 18 yrs of age is exactly that, irregardless of consent. If you're older than 18 right now, and she's not, and you intend to have sex before that, it's considered rape, and sexual assault.
