I had a discussion last week with a person who was a test pilot. Very much a believer in Pilotless aircraft and vehicles. He was determined (his employer Boeing) for Pilotless aircraft to be introduced, working around this and unions by going via cargo flights first then on to passenger.
I mentioned a few things. One being, who will be responsible for an unmanned aircraft, train, ship developing problems, crashing with the loss of all souls on board? As there is no guarantee 100% AI guided aircraft will not suffer issues. Nothing is infallible.
The next was a squad of soldiers with an AI commander. If the AI is taken out who wuold take responsibility for the safety, survival of the squad?
My argument being AI will live on in a machine, as it does in black box technology at the moment. But the humans do not, they go down and perish with the ship. As in the squad of human soldiers. I felt it an important psychological question which needs to be answered.
Many may feel comfortable with the multinational corporation explanation it was a technical hitch, or computer malfunction which is being used more these days, more than I personally would like. Some one needs to be responsible...right?
Being human, I'm comfortable in the thought that the leader, Captain of the ship, vehicle or plane, going down with their ship, will die along with those they are responsible for. Not an intelligence afraid of perishing along with it's human cargo.
It's probably a human instinct to know their is a person in charge, for whatever reason, mistakes or not, is doing everything possible to avoid death which somehow makes it a little more comforting that they will not survive also. (dark hey
)
I've noticed in the last thirty or so years technology has the ability to bring me closer to others on the other side of the planet.....but in many other cases how it has alienated us from each other. Something I've noticed locally, alienation from one another.
Would any of you be happy with the excuse from Multi National corporations that it was a technical hitch, failure.......because that is what you will now hear, and what we are becoming programmed to when tech goes haywire.
And no, I am far from being anti tech by any stretch of the imagination. I'm able to chat here via a string of AI connected devices. Just I have a niggling issue, and I doubt I'll get past it, about getting into a vehicle that may have an accident where the AI driver, pilot, Captain will survive and my family or myself will not.
