Okay, let me clarify what I'm trying to talk about here, as I've read my original post back and I didn't explain myself fully. (This is why I always sucked so much at essays in school!)
My take on things is that a lot of people here seem to underestimate just how... unknowledgable guys can be about things. How much of what 'we' 'know' about the opposite sex/relationships/etc. can come from no more than locker room gossip/porn/bawdy comedians etc etc. And there isn't by default any malice or hatred towards women in that (it can certainly breed and foster it, obviously), it's just that that 'perceived wisdom' is taken as is.
Though sometimes someone may seem to you to be some knuckle-dragging, hateful, mysoginistic oaf, it honestly is not fair, or pleasant for anyone else to read, to assume (yes, you are assuming) that that's the only possibility and then dish out the responses as has been done in this thread.
All I'm asking is that you don't assume the worst.
