The whole issue of to recline or to not recline your seat when on a plane seems to have gotten media attention as of late.

Prior to the media attention, I really hadn’t given the notion of reclining my seat much thought. And to be honest, I still think that, if I wanted to recline my seat, I would. RE: I paid for the seat, and if the airline didn’t want you to recline the seats, then they shouldn’t have that option.

That said, if the person behind me asked me to not recline, I would most likely not recline. We are, after all, all crammed into a tiny and tight space. So being courteous rules.

But I am curious to hear what other think.

Would I want the person in front of me to recline? No. So I don't recline. Social niceties would compel far too many people to say "oh, no problem. Recline away" I'm too southern to ask the question at the risk of making the moment/flight awkward.

Also. Airlines need to stop being fuckwits. Space, I need it!

I usually recline if I want to but do take into consideration the height of the person sitting behind me. If they are over 6 foot tall I usually don't recline. The reclined seat doesn't move more than a few inches back anyway hinging about the area where the tray is when down, that won't hit average height person's knees. If they are slouching in their seats I don't know why I should suffer for their poor posture choices. We shouldn't all be self centered jerks but at the same time it seems like everyone is either hyper sensitive about their own needs or hyper sensitive about potentially offending someone. If I reclined and someone asked that I didn't with a valid reason I would not recline, simple as that. A polite conversation can resolve a lot. -- rant complete

I don’t recline, because I don’t feel that extra two inches of leaning provides any benefit to me. It probably bothers the person behind me, so why bother? That being said, I have a bad back, so reclining would be awesome. It’s just not far enough back to help my back.
