The last thing I want on a flight of any duration is to be seated next to some fidgeting/yammering kid. I smell a reverse psychology ploy.
Now if we can just find a way to keep them out of the seats immediately behind male passengers, we're set.
Ha, rob_just_rob, I know what you are talking about. I have been on flights before where the kid in the seat directly behind me started the kicking thing. I wasted no time turning around and telling (not asking) the parent to control the child. Momma was PISSED at me, but did nothing. I pushed the flight attendant call button, explained what had transpired, and calmly informed the FA that if the child kicked my seat just once more, I would correct the matter myself. The kicking stopped.
I worked in the air travel industry for several years, in reservations. You cannot imagine the kinds of situations that require parents to put unaccompanied minors on flights. You would be shocked at how rude and abusive the parents can get if they don't like the rules and regulations involved, but I always made it very clear, and documented that in their reservations. I frequently got screaming cursing abusive calls from parents who were pissed that my airline refused to release the child to Aunt Susie instead of Aunt Karen (Aunt Karen, who was listed on the reservation, had to work late...)
I don't know what's REALLY going on with British Airways, but I do know that the biggest problem with children (accomanied or not) on flights is the bratty children themselves, or their idiot parents... not some imagined molester in the next seat.
