I love flying too actually. Ever flown into SAN at night while riding on the left side of the plane? A-freakin-mazing!

Atlanta - Its logical...but sucks if you have to change gates
Agreed! Two words: down. town. Damn, some of those flights seem to get close to buildings. Back in the days when it regularly saw widebodies, I landed there in a DC10 or 767 and it was thrill to roar past downtown. But San Diego Lindbergh is the only major US airport I know of where you can walk to downtown in a pinch.
Since Kai Tek in Hong Kong is closed and Tegucigalpa Toncontín is being reconfigured, SAN may be the closest thrill we get.
At least SAN's runway is 9400 ft. The airport I grew up by, DCA, has 3 runways ranging from 4900 to 6870 ft -- explaining the aircraft carrier-type landings. Don't ever land there holding a drink.
^Occasionally, FedEx will fly in a DC 10
TomCat84, you might be interested in the Jeppesen chart for the localizer approach to runway 27; there is no glideslope to the runway. As you can see, there are very high minimums for Category C and Category D aircraft. The categories are predicated on Vref approach speeds, not gross weight.

I heard many years ago when the Laurel Travel building ( San Diego Airport Parking ) was built, all hell broke loose when the six floor parking structure intruded into the FAA safety zone for wide-body aircraft. With the threat of the 1,810 foot displaced threshold (effectively reducing the landing distance of the 9,401 foot runway to 7,590 feet) being further reduced, British Airways stopped flying their 744s into Lindbergh. As it was they had to fly over to KPHX before continuing on the Heathrow because of the weight restrictions of the relatively short runway. By contrast the Boeing 777-200ER is a rocket ship on take-off compared to the BUF.

I work @ SFO (San Francisco International) I guess you could say it's a Love/Hate relationship!
My FAVORITE airport to take off and land in is Lukla, Nepal in the high Himalayas. I've had the opportunity to land there 4 times. It's NOT 4 the faint of heart!
