I love flying too actually. Ever flown into SAN at night while riding on the left side of the plane? A-freakin-mazing!

Agreed! Two words: down. town. Damn, some of those flights seem to get close to buildings. Back in the days when it regularly saw widebodies, I landed there in a DC10 or 767 and it was thrill to roar past downtown. But San Diego Lindbergh is the only major US airport I know of where you can walk to downtown in a pinch.

Since Kai Tek in Hong Kong is closed and Tegucigalpa Toncontín is being reconfigured, SAN may be the closest thrill we get.

At least SAN's runway is 9400 ft. The airport I grew up by, DCA, has 3 runways ranging from 4900 to 6870 ft -- explaining the aircraft carrier-type landings. Don't ever land there holding a drink.

Atlanta - Its logical...but sucks if you have to change gates

I was at ATL yesterday. My flight was late getting in, so I had 15 min to get from A48 to D38. Fortunately, the pilot of the plane I was on was the pilot on my connection or I would have missed it. Don't know how on earth I got that lucky. I don't think I would mind getting stuck in ATL though, there seems to be a lot to do there.

When I was a little kid we flew SAN-LAX-HNL in an L10-11......what a sweet looking plane

Delta, FedEx, and Hawaiian all fly in 767s on a daily basis, but I think that's it. Occasionally you'll see a chartered 747.....but British Airways 777 was the last massive plane to have daily service, and that went away several years ago.

My favourite airport anywhere in the world, hands down, is Gander in Canada, for its amazing time-warped modernist interior. It's like being transported back to 1963, I kept expecting Don Draper to sit next to me and offer me a cigarette.

Worst airport I've ever flown from, by a long way, must be Coventry.

^Occasionally, FedEx will fly in a DC 10

TomCat84, you might be interested in the Jeppesen chart for the localizer approach to runway 27; there is no glideslope to the runway. As you can see, there are very high minimums for Category C and Category D aircraft. The categories are predicated on Vref approach speeds, not gross weight.

San Diego Intl Airport FBOs (San Diego, CA) [KSAN/SAN] | FlightAware

I heard many years ago when the Laurel Travel building ( San Diego Airport Parking ) was built, all hell broke loose when the six floor parking structure intruded into the FAA safety zone for wide-body aircraft. With the threat of the 1,810 foot displaced threshold (effectively reducing the landing distance of the 9,401 foot runway to 7,590 feet) being further reduced, British Airways stopped flying their 744s into Lindbergh. As it was they had to fly over to KPHX before continuing on the Heathrow because of the weight restrictions of the relatively short runway. By contrast the Boeing 777-200ER is a rocket ship on take-off compared to the BUF.

I used to go down every evening almost and watch it take off- the 747 400...fucking amazing how that thing ever managed to get off the ground out of that matchbox of an airport:eek:

I work @ SFO (San Francisco International) I guess you could say it's a Love/Hate relationship!

Yes but you have See's candy available at your fingertips on a daily basis. I actually really like SFO unless I have to get from the Domestic Terminal to the International in a hurry!

My FAVORITE airport to take off and land in is Lukla, Nepal in the high Himalayas. I've had the opportunity to land there 4 times. It's NOT 4 the faint of heart!

Nepal's Lukla Airport part 1- One of the Most Dangerous Airport around the World - YouTube

Yikes! I'll take your word on that one! I survived the old Hong Kong Kai Tak airport; with the exception of three actual emergency landings those were the most white knuckle experiences of my flying career. (I had to do it once during an electrical storm, I don't think I've been the same since)

Last time I flew into Las Vegas, there was some building that had been burned and a big black cloud was visible for miles

For years it was Atlanta-Hartsfield to Austin-Bergstrom usually through either Tampa or DFW. Now I have to include JAX into the mix. I don't have a favorite airport because I simply hate flying. I really, really do.

My husband just goes with the flow on a plane, but I get claustrophobic and usually take a meclizine just in case. The only plane I've ever really gotten sick on was a chartered LearJet once, and that was because he was showing off for the band. I think that guy lost his license later on for something else.

The best flight I ever had was out of Jumbolair not far from here on John Travolta's plane! And he was the captain! That was so cool! Of course, I was so starstruck I didn't even realize we were in the air.
