Al-Qaida No. 2 insults Obama with racial epithet - Yahoo! News

CAIRO, Egypt – Al-Qaida's No. 2 leader used a racial epithet to insult Barack Obama in a message posted Wednesday, using a demeaning racial term implying that the president-elect is a black American who does the bidding of whites.

The message appeared chiefly aimed at persuading Muslims and Arabs that Obama does not represent a change in U.S. policies. Ayman al-Zawahri said in the message, which appeared on militant Web sites, that Obama is "the direct opposite of honorable black Americans" like Malcolm X, the 1960s African-American rights leader.

In al-Qaida's first response to Obama's victory, al-Zawahri also called the president-elect — along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice — "house negroes."

Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term "abeed al-beit," which literally translates as "house slaves." But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as "house negroes."

The message also includes old footage of speeches by Malcolm X in which he explains the term, saying black slaves who worked in their white masters' house were more servile than those who worked in the fields. Malcolm X used the term to criticize black leaders he accused of not standing up to whites.

The 11-minute 23-second video features the audio message by al-Zawahri, who appears only in a still image, along with other images, including one of Obama wearing a Jewish skullcap as he meets with Jewish leaders. In his speech, al-Zawahri refers to a Nov. 5 U.S. airstrike attack in Afghanistan, meaning the video was made after that date.

Al-Zawahri said Obama's election has not changed American policies he said are aimed at oppressing Muslims and others.

"America has put on a new face, but its heart full of hate, mind drowning in greed, and spirit which spreads evil, murder, repression and despotism continue to be the same as always," the deputy of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden said.

He said Obama's plan to shift troops to Afghanistan is doomed to failure, because Afghans will resist.

"Be aware that the dogs of Afghanistan have found the flesh of your soldiers to be delicious, so send thousands after thousands to them," he said.

Al-Zawahri did not threaten specific attacks, but warned Obama that he was "facing a Jihadi (holy war) awakening and renaissance which is shaking the pillars of the entire Islamic world; and this is the fact which you and your government and country refuse to recognize and pretend not to see."

He said Obama's victory showed Americans acknowledged that President George W. Bush's policies were a failure and that the result was an "admission of defeat in Iraq."

But Obama's professions of support for Israel during the election campaign "confirmed to the Ummah (Islamic world) that you have chosen a stance of hostility to Islam and Muslims," al-Zawahri said.

Good thing he said all that bad stuff. Now maybe some americans will stop believing that obama is a terrorist. If al-Zawahri would have said "we love obama! we cant wait till he overthrows the american government with us!" then he would have caused some serious shit!

Does this rhetoric actually work? If so, then I have to wonder about the nature of the mentality of the Middle East. I am hoping that this sort of hateful message will backfire and push the peace-seeking--or even moderate--Middle Easterners away from al-Qaida. Do the Muslims really want another Jihad?

Seriously, enough negatively racist things have been said on this board by various members. Why should we be concerned that Al-Qaida said something? I'd expect him to.

However, I hope this puts to rest some of that "Obama is a terrorist" rhetoric to bed.

These lunatics are pissed that Obama has implied that he supports Isreali interests in that region.

They need to promote hatred for the U.S. and its leaders in order to keep their extremist followers motivated and active.

They sure do. Without an enemy, they have no reason to exist. Actually that works both ways. Some people say the best thing that ever happened to the US (and other's) military industrial complex, was the Soviets getting the A-bomb.

Absolutely it works. Mix in religious belief and we see examples like Al-Qaida, Taliban and even the fruitcakes right here known as members of the KKK, Aryan Nation, Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam, New Black Panther Party, Westboro Baptist Church etc.

The difference is here we keep hate in the closet for the most part instead of in power/government.

I think the insults are for their own constituency, not ours. Obama being elected is a problem for them because it goes against the narrative they have created about America that they use for recruiting.

It doesn't help their narrative when we rise abover our historical racism and elect a minority president and one that voted against the war in Iraq.

So they have to spin the story of us electing Obama into something nefarious.

By the way, nice OP, Bigg. This is an interesting turn of events.

JA - your argument holds water if there wasn't a narrative that was created by the left contingency (for recruiting) during the Bush years.

You may have a point on the Iraq issue, but racism is way off in this society - Obama's race was an advantage in this election.

Not really. Like it or not, he was the benefactor of an election that existed in the midst of a recession, high gas prices and rising healthcare costs. Scooby Doo probably could have won on the Democratic ticket in this election.

Either way, I wish him well. I don't think he will fare well, but I hope I'm wrong.
