But it is reverend al, and no one else, who sits up there on TV and debates with those running for president (or at least demo nominee). Him being there forces all of them to discuss issues regarding the black community. Do you really think edwards or kerry or anyone else really gives a shit about those issues? It is almost comical to watch when he debates with them.

Yes, and that's why I say "bandwagoning" on sensationalized incidents like this undoes what he has been able to (bring to the forefront) in other venues.

Not that Sharpton is a stranger to social gaffes and mispoken words himself. For a person so steadfast on the apology issue , he's had to offer more that one or two for something he shouldn't have said himself.

To his credit he has come around to involvement with non-racial issues as well, including gay rights, and so would do well to avoid the tabloid-like issues such as this unfortunate affair.

Not that it'd make much difference for some. Some (who are disinclined to admit to the still continuing problems of racism and class struggle) lump Sharpton, Jackson, (and even Dr. King as I can remember) as all of the same ilk. For people in denial, one can do no right... serve no good.

But neither is calling too much attention to issues not worthy the furor.
