If it's printed on a highway billboard, it must be true, right?

Apparently, enough Floridians think so that it caused a 66% drop in sales at a nearby eatery...and the publication of the original news report by local station WFTV 9 has stirred such furor that it's been taken down from their site.

Silly Luddites...don't they know that the interwebs were designed by the architects of the Hotel California?

I am personally offended by those billboards that were all over my area that had "pithy" one-liners in white courier font signed by "God." Those things were offensive, in my opinion, to both religious people and non-religious people. I thought they were presumptuous arrogant, and intrusive. I saw or heard of little furor over them. Here's a video that has parodies of them:

MySpaceTV Videos: Dueling Billboards by mario digiorgio

Those things pissed me off more than one billboard about religion being a fairy tale does.

Some people in Florida are pretty angry at religion. They have a new religion problem as of a few days ago. A bill was passed called the "Intellectual Freedom" bill. It allows students and teachers to substitute religious beliefs for any actual truth that contradicts it.

For example, a student can say that the Earth is 6000 years old and pass geology, if his religious beliefs inform him to believe that.

Say goodbye to The Enlightenment, Florida. It was nice knowing ya.

    Sheesh...
and it was taken down why?

Someone paid for it to be there it has very right of being up there as those God billboards....

Oh... because it interfered with COMMERCE.

I guess its like valentines day, Santa and the Easter bunny....
Religion bent to the service of inciting folks to shop.

I wonder.... what if someone posted a huge billboard right near every major mall this coming December that said
"Jesus doesn't want you to buy stuff"...

    would that stay up?
Or would the merchants force its removal?

A protest for something called "Buy Nothing Day" at a Delaware mall got a pair of women arrested for their troubles, even though they were breaking no laws.

OK JA - how long before we get a Floridian University based Religion that insists that you have to answer complete manure to any academic exam question - a little surrealistic penchant perhaps.

    Q1. 2 + 2 = ?

    A. Cock

    Correct, 2 points.

I claim this religion as Dwoodyism.

It would be an improvement (IMHO) if Florida would ban billboards, as is the case here.

Yes, that is the exact problem with the "Intellectual Freedom" bill. Any wacko belief is acceptable as a student's response or as a teacher's subject matter as long as it is a religious belief.

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is going to have a field day with this. All praise His Noodliness!!!

I got that, but the sign said "over", not "to my house".
    There's room for creative interpretation.

Uh, yeah, I think most everyone on this board is intelligent enough to understand the meaning of "all religions." I know that you are incapable of responding to any thread that touches on religion, without taking a sling at that one in particular, but come on... we do understand that the phrase "all religions" includes islam, as well as judaism & christianity and all others.
