I've been noticing the same here....i do not wear beard anyway, unless i am at home doing nothing all day( Sundays mostly). I think it makes me look older and less elegant. I have also been noticing that many young gays(and younf men in general) are now also proudly wearing chest hair, which is something very new for me. I am used to seeing shaved men....
Anyway,my opinion is: if a feminine gay wears beard, it makes him look even more trashy and more like a f*g. It is something i can't really stand, but still quite common in the recent times.
On the other hand,if a gay man is more masculine (and really handsome, cuz beard on an ugly guy is a HUGE turn off!),beard can be a turn on,and chest hair can be a HUGE turn on to me. I myself have and simply love it. I love the feel and the way my fit body looks with hair on,and i look quite masculine.
I guess this beard/chest hair thing still comes from the fashion world....if you notice models in advertisment or runways etc, many of them have recently brought back this trend;take David Gandy as an example....
