All the hype over Janet's breast?

Sheesh people, grow up and get that prudish corn cob out of your butt....
There are really two issues here, as I see it:

1.Are US television standards antiquated and capricious?
2.Should Janet Jackson be exempt from having to follow the rules?

I haven't heard anyone dispute that US broadcast standards are sensible and fair -- it's completely bizarre to me that the farting horse is okay, but the naked breast isn't.

On the other hand -- I don't think it's 'prudish' or having a 'corncob up my butt' to insist that Jackson's fame not give her a free pass on this. I can't even talk my way out of a speeding ticket: If I exposed myself on national television, I'd probably be in jail right now. I think the lawsuit is entirely reasonable in its nature (although not so reasonable in its assessment of damages). Why shouldn't Janet Jackson have to face the music for the stunt?

Change the rules if you want -- write the FCC and lobby to get the standards brought into the 21st century -- I'll totally support you on that. But don't call me a prude because I expect the rich and famous to take responsibility for their actions just like you and I have to.

But most of these puritans wouldn't even get a prostate exam, so how can they have a corn cob up there?

roedhunt: I was not even referring to the FCC at all. With the standards the way they are, Janet should not be exempt from the law. But that was NOT my point.

Prudish America has been offended. Prudish, hypocritical America. So now you must abase and humiliate yourselves in front of the entire world, and say you're sorry. An entire nation is acting like a three-year-old. Now that's humiliating...

Ok, yes it was an inappropriate time and place. Yes, she should be punished, fine or what have you. But for God's sake, it's just a breast, people! It's a mass of tissue and glands, which produce milk so that a woman can feed her children. It's only dirty because repressed people think that way.

And then there’s the lawsuit. Serious injury? Did I miss something here? Did Janet's nipple ring poke Terri Carlin's eye out? Did the nipple ring suddenly become The Ring of Power? Was Janet Jackson shooting laser beams out of her boob? Personally, I have suffered more ‘outrage, anger, embarrassment and serious injury’ by watching the Budweiser commercials. If a second of flashed breast offends you but 3 hours violence does not then I think you need to examine your morals. We lock up people who act like football players in real life.

One of the hypocrisies in this business that I find most abhorrent is the claim that it's "all about the children." Yeah, like hell it is:

Is there any doubt that after the Super Bowl controversy, MTV would be on its very best behavior during this school filming? I don't think so.

And the school would have had a sizable amount of money -- "for college scholarships". But to placate angry parents, and/or establish their "moral" bona fides, the school board members kissed the money goodbye. And bye-bye to college for who knows how many students.

It's not about "the children." It's about moral prudery, moral posturing, hypocrisy, and an adolescent's level of maturity. And to phrase it that way is insulting to adolescents.

And excuse me, what about all the alcohol ads? We're telling kids its cool to drink liquor and then we are shocked to learn kids are drinking. And let’s not forget Kid Rock and his misuse of the American flag. Chimps pick up lines and farting horses? Oh wait... those are for the kids…

And the one big question is this: How does Eli Lilly justify running a commercial for an erectile dysfunction aid during a football game being watched by millions of little kids?

One father who watched the game with his 12-year-old son said the Jackson dance passed uncommented upon, but he was caught short when the boy asked, "Dad, what's erectile dysfunction?"

I was just making a joke, roed. Children have (or should have) seen breasts when they were little babies, so what's the big deal?
I found it interesting that no one commented on the guys that kept grabbing their packages while they sang (lip sinked).   ::)

But that is just my point of view.   8)
We have Jacko to thank for starting the crotch grabbing while singing (?) performing (?) whatever. About a year ago I first noticed it was done by another guy. But, damn, now if a dozen are on stage, they all have to do it. The difference in culture is astounding!

Thanks for speaking up, goodboygonebad98.

roedhunt: Sorry jonb, I knew it was a joke. I was replying back in regards to the other comments made. Not yours. I have a great sense of humor, but something’s I'm very adamant about. Uptight people, rude people, and most of all, socialization. Conforming all people to ONE standard. It just burns my butt. I'm not trying to be a bitch, but I think its one of our downfalls as Americans. If someone doesn’t comply with THEIR beliefs and THEIR way of living, then that person is wrong.

I have a friend who I have known for many years now. She may be younger than me, but she is very old-fashioned and a conformist. I am not. A rebel to some, a non-conformist to others. However, if I don’t think or behave in the way SHE does, then I am in the wrong. For example, I am a night owl. I hate mornings and come alive in the evening. She is a day person. So when we talk she always asks me when I went to bed and when I got up. I know this will open it up for a criticized comment, but I am honest. And every time, sure enough, she has to criticize on how I can sleep all day and why cant I be normal.... *sigh*. But because I love her, I don’t let this get to me, and because I know it gets to her more. ;D

I am not criticizing people for having their morals, but it shouldn’t go so far to expect everyone to be like them. Plus we live in a time where we have everything. We are so spoiled that we have to bitch about such petty things. I mean come on now, a lawsuit from a dumb bitch who held her coffee between her legs while driving? Idiot. Or fall down because they weren’t watching where they’re going, so they sue the place of business? Or are so taken back from an exposure of a woman’s breast that they sue? It just shows how far we've come. Maybe next we'll start to cover our women up so men dont get impure thoughts.

I'm surprised no one has sued women for their thong peeking out above their jeans..... :-/

Javierdude22: Roed...of course you are right and I totally agree with you...

(I was slowly taking a few steps back from my compu when I read your pre last mail, you should run for president!)

BUT...there is a law that states you cant just show your breast on national tv...regardless if Budweiser commercials are allowed. Governments make these laws, governmenst represent people, people vote, people have opinions. With all the diferent opinion in the US, this one obviously is shared enough by a majority to have become a law.

Thats why I think Mindseye had it right...do something through the official channels about it, otherwise it will be fruitless.

The crotch grab started long, long before Jacko. It was really creepy to see him do it because I even wonder if he has anything down there. (apologies to his fans). I like to see a crotch grab if I think the singer is cute. I personally don't find it to be offensive at all.

As for all the hysteria and hypocricy over the "incident", I agree with roedhunt.
