I find the alpha notion to be largely incoherent. So I'm disinclined to / tend to avoid labeling anyone that way.
Mostly because there must be 10,000 different definitions of what one is on the net.
It's pretty straight forward, and it takes about 30 seconds to recognize one. If that.

I don't think it makes sense to acknowledge that a concept is incoherent and then turn around and claim that it applies to anything.

It isn't incoherent, but the definitions are. In that there must be 1000 of them out there.
To me it is pretty simple, but not so easy to define. You know one when you see one.

You may know some thing when you see said thing, but if you don't have any definition for it, there's no basis for identifying what the thing is. You see "an alpha", but it doesn't mean anything for you to assign any conceptual content to what you are intuiting, if you don't have any definition for what "an alpha" is.

Anyway, I'm fairly sure that the notion is bogus, so there's that too.

Oh I don't think so.
Alphas are easy to see.
Usually successful, dripping with confidence, quiet but assertive. Easily laugh at themselves, as they are not easily insulted due to a lack of care of what you think of them. Rarely brag about their success, again, because they don't need anyone's praise. In any given situation, they often take a leadership role naturally. People just listen to them. And for good reason. Along with the confidence is a healthy understanding of their weaknesses. Another reason of their success. They don't worry about appearing weak, so have no problems delegating out things they are not good at.
Their decision making process is superior to most. Other people worry about what others think, or avoid confrontations etc. - an alpha basis their decisions on what they see as the answer, not what others think.

Sounds like what people see in Trump. Guess he's an Alpha.

Oh hell no. Trump is waaaay to sensitive about what others think of him. This is a huge motivator for him. Look how he got into tweet wars with the likes of Rosanne Barr for instance. An alpha could care less about what people say online. Trump has always obsessed about this. And that lost him the Presidency. Policy-wise, he wasn't bad at all. His constant mouthing off and making everything about him is his biggest problem by far. If anything he is the "needy alpha". Read the below... and I think you will see Trump in spades.

Needy Alpha – The Needy Alpha is the standard (i.e. old) definition of “Alpha Male”. He is confident but very outcome dependent. Like an Alpha, he’s masculine, tough, very confident, and cool. However due to his strong outcome dependence he is jealous, controlling, domineering, and usually quick to anger. If things are going great, he’s a happy guy just like an Alpha. But if people in his life doesn’t follow his needy program, he’s enraged. “How dare they disrespect me!!!” Immediately he starts barking orders, making rules, and getting into fights (verbal or otherwise).

Hmm... seems like you are proving @malakos right in that it all seems incoherent. By definition you just said Trump is an Alpha but a subsection called a "Needy Alpha".

But some people don't see him as that and just a regular Alpha because of what I assume as bias and by what you just gave as a definition of him is, the "standard (old) definition of an Alpha"

It's not clear and individual dependant.

I didn't say Trump was an Alpha... someone else did.

And after all this no one has clearly defined what the term Alpha means.. Then again no one I know has ever used that term...

Either you are masculine or you aren’t ... Either you take shit from people or you speak up for yourself... I find it humorous to hear words like Alpha/ultra masculine...It’s not like there are various degrees of masculinity..

Masculinity is also a rather relativistic concept.

Any guy, gay or straight or other, who self-identifies as an Alpha is anything but.

A real Alpha doesn't need to tell anyone he's an Alpha - it's obvious. The guys who have to tell you are just insecure, and that is the opposite of Alpha.

Have you ever met an alpha gay guy? If so, what did you like about them and what didn’t you like about them?

Back in the day we would say butch or macho or str8 acting.

I think they are hot.
I think you are confused with your definition.
Back in the day we would have said macho etc... and the alpha could still be a bottom!
Alpha these days is more about being confident, and now its now sin, as it was back in the day, to be gay guys can hold their heads up high and be confident, and alpha - or perhaps my definition is all Greek!
