I am as bitterly disappointed as anyone else about a fraud, a liar, and a boorish lout being elected president of the US, but
1.) America didn't die on 8 November 2016;
2.) The things that are great about this country remain great;
3.) If you can't recall what those are, quit posting and start some serious, directed thinking;
4.) Determine what it is that you can contribute and do to restore what you think has been lost or
right what you think is wrong, and then
5.). Start doing it and don't stop.

What it's great about "America"? What's wrong is it's general bigotry, absolute disregard for the poor, careless jingoism, etc...

No one asked you what's wrong with America, and your answer is woefully insufficient. You can't even begin to describe America's problems in your facile, superficial eleven-word answer of 'it's general bigotry, absolute disregard for the poor, careless jingoism, etc.'.

Because why again? I can't think of any meaningful indicators that place it on top unless you mean GDP or military spending neither of which mean "greatness". Though I am sure come Jan 20th Trump will make it "great again".

It's going to be nasty. One piece of legislation after another - the GOP can't wait, now that they have full control in both the House and Senate. Suffering upon suffering. Don't be surprised if a special session of Congress on Saturday is not convened the day after the inauguration. Then, the gates of Hell will be opened. Let the HATE begin, as if it hasn't already,

It just kills me. I don't accept this - and never will.

If you didn't like being answered, should not have asked. What I've mentioned clearly shows USA is not great, and unless you are completely ignorant about your country, you should be able to see daily the evidences of what I accuse USA of.

I happen to still think there are some great things about America too. For one, let's not lose sight of the fact that the majority of America's voters (those who bothered) voted for Hillary... that those who did, did NOT buy into the hate and bigotry of Trump's campaign.

The simple truth is, sometimes evil gets the upper hand. Which is not to say that because it does, it ceases to be evil or that those who KNOW it for what it is, should sit back and allow it to prevail. It only means there's far more work to do by those who believe in a more inclusive, compassionate, and just society.

It also means that those who've facilitated the rise of fascism by wasting their vote, or sat on their asses and didn't even bother, have to either "shit or get off the pot," by way of becoming agents for change, motivated with the same energy and passion that motivates our enemies to turn out in droves to endorse a nationalistic, fascist, agenda.

There were a LOT of people who didn't bother to vote, either because they didn't believe their votes mattered, or didn't like either candidate, or were just too damned lazy regardless. Including a large number of YOUNG voters (about whom I once remarked were in need of awakening from a Playstation induced coma). It is they who'll have to live with the LONG lingering results of a Trump presidency and a conservative controlled government.

I keep reflecting back on those young black students in the Trevor Noah video who seemed so dispassionate as they said they were undecided. Some might justifiably argue that's because Hillary was a candidate they couldn't get excited about.

However I'm more convinced that TOO many our young people are perhaps too disconnected from the struggles of the 50s, 60s, and 70s and have come to take TOO much for granted, so that they don't mind sitting back and letting whatever gains were made from sixty YEARS of struggle to be taken from them by those hell bent on reversing and undoing it ALL.

Some lessons are best learned via HARD KNOCKS. The upshot being, if there's any good to come from a Trump presidency, any LESSON to be learned, it MIGHT be THEIR realization of the need to WAKE THE FUCK UP, because it'll be incumbent upon THEM to begin the struggle ANEW.

Eleven words don't clearly show anything, fool. Even you should know that.

I dunno. I've lived in U.S. all my life, and I'd say those accusations are truer than they should be.

The problem with your logic is those things you claim to be evidence are not unique to the U.S., those problems exist everywhere. Your attempts to accuse (your word) and denigrate this country are your own personal issues, whatever they may be. As others have posted, we Americans look to the positive, and making this country better, and chose not to wallow in the negative, and in our current state. It's called the American spirit. Presidents and administrations come and go, and we are all here today, this country didn't die on November 8th. THAT is what makes this country great. It's resiliency, it's continuity, it's consistency, it's opportunities. It's the right to criticize our government and our leaders, freedoms not afforded in many other places. These are some of the things that are why so many come here to start a life, whether they arrive on a plane, or by crossing rivers with all their possessions on their backs. Not eveyone makes it here, but the hope is always that they have set the path for their children, and the children's children . . . .

So, your evidence, minha Amiga, is lost on many of us here, save you handful of self-haters who, quite honestly, will never be happy short of complete upheaval of our government or anarchy, which will never happen. I've been fortunate to have traveled around the world quite a bit, and while there are incredibly beautiful places, with great people, and food, and cultures, there is no greater feeling to me than when I land back home in America. Those of us fortunate enough to live in this great country are proud to be American. Is this country perfect? Hell no, no place is. But it's pretty fucking awesome that we have the freedoms, opportunities and other blessing this country offers everyday. My opinion.

'True' (like straight, unique or correct) is not an adjective that admits to the comparative or superlative degree: somthing is true or is not. But you're welcome to say what you want about the US.

Are those the most salient faults of the US, as you see things? Are those eleven words really what you would use? I could be wrong, but I don't think they are. Jingoism being ranked with bigotry? Stupid. Disregard for the poor? --And he's from Brazil, where government-operated/codoned hit squads execute poor young men in favelas? Have you seen/been to the favelas of Brazil?

IMO, the guy is a self-righteous jerk. Let him work on his own country's problems.

Thanks. And since "true or not" are my only options, I'll have to tread warily around the gray areas.

They don't have to be my words for me to find some truth in them (damn . . . there I go again!)

Said the man from a "Trump Protected Class".

America died on Nov. 8, 2016, not with a bang or a whimper, but at its own hand via electoral suicide. We the people chose a man who has shredded our values, our morals, our compassion, our tolerance, our decency, our sense of common purpose, our very identity — all the things that, however tenuously, made a nation out of a country.

Farewell, America

What a load! Just look at the stock market which is an indicator of things to come and contradicts your precept. But you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I respect that right and your freedom to express it here.

Well, that's only one indicator...appointments of cabinet officers like Ben Carson, who maintains that the Egyptian pyramids were built to store grain, and Rick Perry, who came off as terminally stupid in two previous campaigns, are not harbingers of good things to come.
