New Zealanders will tell you they don't like the United States, but we do go crazy for American people!
American guys, especially with Californian and Southern accents (New York not so much), will find their accents to be an asset here if they're looking for sex - definitely! All-American looking guys will have girls and gays all over them if they make themselves accessible.

My Kiwi accent got me action in the Midwest last year, although everybody thought I was either British or Australian at first.

I live in Washington, the land of no accents. I've been complimented on my voice before, but never my 'accent'.

I however, love how Japanese women talk, at least when they are speaking Japanese. So desu ka? Sugoiiiii!
As a fellow Washingtonian I will say that when I travel to the UK they do say I have a unique Yankee accent and that its not horrible sounding like New Yorkers..

Eek! As one that lives in NY, I would like to stand up for my state haha . New York City and the rest of the state are pretty much two different states. Outside of the city the accents are pretty bland but in the city there are so many accents from all over the place. I think when people think of a New York accent, they are thinking mainly of Brooklyn... and that I have to admit is a walking headache lol. The only accent worse than a Brooklyn one, is one from South Jersey!

Washingtonians DO TOO have an 'accent'!!!

Man, oh man, but dialects are my thing. I've lived in a large part of the US and can mimic many dialects, most as comfortable as someone born in those areas...

Oh, and the dialect in Washington is, get this shit, 'Pacific Northwestern'. No bullshit, look it up.

On the topic itself, I wish. If you find out, tell me so I can move there. I'm tired of mimicking accents here in the US to get guys to notice me!!

When I have been out to NYC, and Denver CO especaly, I got noticed very quickaly, and had stores basicaly help me in any which way they can, and even managed to bag a few women in bed too :biggrin1:

I will say though as accents go, I love the southern belle types (Dolly Parton, etc).

As for myself, dispite where I live, I have a North Derbyshire / South Yorkshire accent, but I think that came about, when I used to spend quite a bit of time, around the Sheffield area.

I think you need to be more specific regarding the area as all countries have regional accents, no one accent covers a whole country. If you take the UK for example there is a world of difference from a Wiltshire accent to say that of a Liverpool accent

Actually, I have read that languages have more regional/dialectical variation in the country they originate than in the country they were spread to. American accents aren't all that different compared to the difference in most UK dialects. (I gotta say tho, I don't really know the diff between UK dialects because I'm not from there.) In Germany people can usually tell between UK dialects in my experience, but despite my unfortunate heavy New York speak I just sounded American to them.

That being said, I will have you know that many people in Germany found my Lawn Guyland Italian accent cute and sexy! :frown1:

I heard an Australian guy at the bar this weekend and oh my...if only he weren't straight.

I have found that a lot of people in the midwest do not have accents and I have been told so by people from out of the area. Yay! ;D

I have a bit of a Southern accent. To my ear, well-educated, mostly Tidewater, Southern accents are certainly classy and the nicest. And for sure, I understand why people might disdain some City accents whether Manhattan, or Brooklyn, whether from Jersey or Long Island. But truth is I think New Yorkers are sexy and New York accents are part of what is hot about them. I’m gay. To me New York guys got attitude. New York attitude is hot as hell.

Fair enough sir. I agree that Brooklyn and S Jersey do seem to really have harsh accents.

So does anyone know if women in other countries like guys with american accents?

I imagine that American accents aren't so popular abroad simply because we all hear them on movies and TV shows. It's pretty much a given that by the time you're five years old, whatever country you're from, you've watched many American cartoons and maybe even a few movies.

Saying that, I think few would disagree that I am talking about the 'stock' accent one hears from LA type actors. When it comes to more regional dialects, like southern accents, the reception is more defined. Most of my friends find the southern twang to either be extremely annoying or most endearing, as opposed to being apathetic.

If I'm not careful, my gabacho accent spills out when speaking Spanish and when cornered I'll say something like "I'm Canadian, from Vancouver." which, in reality, isn't such a big lie. I was born in Kelowna, 2 hours east of Vancouver and carry both a US and a Canadian passport. But I basically grew up in the weird world of the Intermountain West among the mormons. Odd childhood, that.

However the only time I talk as if I speak perfect 'Mericuhn is when I'm going through customs to enter the USA. Once past customs I've developed, unconsciously, sort of a light accent that is definitely not English. A close friend in Thousand Oaks says I speak like Recardo Montalban in my old age. To get back in the saddle, so to speak, when I'm in Nevada I have to say things like "lil' darlin', mai rezuhn ta liv, and shoooger booooger" to waitresses and bar maids I know which helps me ramp up and talk in an authentic Austin, Texas, drawl.

There is an interesting thing that has happened in the last 20 years in the American West where folks who otherwise have thick western accents will pronounce pro (as in pronounce, process, proceed, etc.) as pr+long o, which is basically correct. But it sticks out like a bleeding wound in their regular speech because they usually change most long vowels to short vowel sounds and it's a bit strange. They used to say "prahnounce" "prahceed" and "prahcess." But after they've attended a few "how to speak pretty" business conferences, the men folk have come home and trained their wives and kids to make exceptions in their accents regarding this particular prefix so they don't sound like hicks.

As for my own accent(s), Je ne peux simuler un accent québécois quand je parle français, which usually inspires someone to ask, "What part of Ontario are you from?" or puedo imitar los acentos barçelonés, porteño, mexicano o centroamericano genérico. Pero no puedo, sin embargo, hablar como un Puertoriqueño. Puerto Ricans are difficult to imitate.

Just go to Quebec. They practice equal opportunity hate for all english speakers. You won't feel singled out.

That is not quite true, many years ago I agree it was more prevalent throughout the province but nowadays most folks here really don`t care as we have far bigger problems to deal with, but if your reffering to the pureblood Quebecers who don`t speak a lick of English and who are 40+ then yeah them bastards are quite a discriminating bunch I must admit and not just against english speaking folks either.

Now regarding the thread topic I don`t have an accent per se, not when speaking english anyway but I do have trouble pronouncing some words properly such as bathroom, thief, tooth and such, anything with a th in it. I always pronounce the th as an f, so instead of saying bathroom the way most folks do the way I say it comes out sounding like bafroom, fief, toof, etc. Being Hungarian we don`t have any words that sound like that hence my difficulty with the pronounciation.

Now when I speak french though I do have an accent apparently, although I can very easily immitate a true Quebecer accent if I want to having lived here most of my life, but if I speak french the way I usually do it sounds kinda rough yet very eloquent so I`ve been told. As for what kind of accents I like to be honest I haven`t been exposed to any that stand out, at least in person, but on TV I do quite like the Southern Bell accents you see in movies where the women will refer to someone with words like "Darling" and Sugar", now that I find sexy and certain british accents sound quite appealing as well.

Men with British and Austrailian accents are very popular with the ladies here in the united states.

One episode of MY NAME IS EARL, there was a french guy that came to the US to get laid because women love frech accents. He said he can't get girls in France because they all have French accents out there.

So does anyone know if women in other countries like guys with American accents?

I have a southwest accent/
aka Socal accent

The people stare up here in spokane,wa

I do get a lot of attention.
Yeah I can pronounce Coeur d'Alene right also...
